I'm not very good at this so please bear withe me :)

I'm trying to run Dual Monitors, but the problem is when I add a video card to the AGP slot it shuts off my onboard Nvidia GeForce4 automatically. Is there any way around this?

If I try and find the video card under Display adapters it isn't there either.

running an AGP card automatically disables the onboard card. that's just the way it is; now way around it. if you want to run dual monitors, you need to get an AGP video card that supports it. most do, btw. what is the specific card you're trying to use?

It's just a card I pilfered off an old computer I have, an nVidia Vanta. Nothing to special. But I'll probably be picking up a new video card sometime soon. Anything you could recommend in the $150-200 range?

If you have an old PCI video board you can get dual monitors running by placing this card in the PCI thay is furtherest away from the AGP slot.
I have had this configuration working on a Gigabyte Motherbord with no internal Grahics and used a AGP8 card and a PCI Card (Both Nvida Based)
Have transfered this same setup to an other gigabyte board with internal graphics and have had the dual system work with the internal graphics and the PCI card and the AGP8 card and the PCI card.

Asumming you are using windows XP after the Hardware System shows both Vidio Adaptors you will need to go in via the display Icon in the control Panel (Advanced setting) to setup both displays

Best of Luck

That looks pretty good, thanks Auslander.

Morgainne, my other video card was an AGP, and I don't have a PCI card availible to me. Don't think its worth the hassle to try and get one for something that has a good chance of not working, and won't support very nice graphics making the second monitor almost a waste anyway.

Depending on the model/grphic quality of your AGP Card you could run this in the AGP slot as your primary Monitor. The PCI card would then be your Secondary moitor and as such does not need to be the latest and greatest.

How this will work for games I'm not sure, maybe someone else could give feed back on their game setup (a new thread? Dual Monitors in Games)
I use my setup mainly for photo editing and a small amount of video editing.

My Hardware Is Gigabyte 8S661FXMP-RZ (with on board Video SIS chipset)motherbord using a 3 Gig P4 1 Gig of Ram, the two video boards are, the AGP is a Winfast A340 (nvidia FX5200) driving an Acer wide screen lcd monitor (AL1916w) and the PCI card is a gforce2 mx400 driving a diamond view (MEA1770H) 17" Crt monitor.

Cheers
