Hey all, I tried searching on this but found no info. I recently bought the first season of the excellent anime series Full Metal Alchemist after being turned on to it by a friend. What is odd is that I'm able to back up all the DVD's except the 6th DVD in the set. The 6th DVD won't even read in my burner, no spin, nothing. However it plays just fine on my DVD player (a seperate drive). I thought this was odd and mentioned it to my friend, he stated he had the exact same problem with his set as well... Is there some type of burner protection that doesn't allow a DVD to be recognized in a burner? I was going to write it off as a bad DVD, but, it reads fine in my player, and the fact that my friend experiences the same problem with his own DVD leads me to beleive there is something special encoded on that 6th DVD in the series. Any suggestions?

Alot of box set series will have a special encryption on only one disc in the set. This sounds like the problem you are having...either this or there is a bad pressing issue in the area you live in. Try the 21 day trial of slysoft's AnyDVD and see if you can get some joy.

Hey Loco, thanks for the info, it makes sense to specially encrypt 1 disc from the boxed set, I am certain this is what is happening. I'm using the trial version of AnyDVD right now and I like it a lot. However it doesn't seem to help in this particular case because my drive won't even read the DVD. Even AnyDVD doesn't see anything in the drive, something on the DVD is causing my burner to think it's drive is empty. It says 'No Disc' in drive. Would you have any suggestions on how to get my DVD burner to recognize there is a disc in the drive? Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.

Try the AnyDVD ripper, right click on the fox icon in your taskbar and see if will see the drive. Other than that I'm at a loss, if your drive doesnt' see the disc or the drive with the disc in it. Can you watch the movie on your PC?

This is odd. I left the DVD in my drive for a few hours and checked it again, my computer finally recognized a dsic in the drive. I did a search on this and did fins someone else with my exact same problem, they also stated they left for a few hours and came bakc, seeing that their drive fianlly recognized the disc. I can't figure out what would cause this? Anyway, it seems I may be able to burn it now, thanks for replying to this thread Loco.
