if you know how to burn iso for xbox, this will help you a lot with modchip.

Your hdd died. If you have eeprom.bin and backups of the complete C and E drive on PC, you can build a brand new hdd by using xboxhdm.

For modchip:

You will need a new big hdd like 160GB, a solderless modchip like X3, Xenium or SmarrtXX. You also need to download bios for your xbox version and download autoinstaller disk like AID or Slayers or SID.

Here are the steps:

- install big hdd
- install modchip. Follow guides from the modchip site.
- turn on xbox. it will ask you to update bios. So burn the bios into CD. Insert the Cd into xbox and flash bios
- reboot xbox then put autoinstaller disk in DVD.
- Reboot xbox again, xbox will load autoinstaller disk.
- goto format option to format complete hdd.
- then goto install dashboard and apps and emulators.
- done.

cookiedud, you need to get the X3 modchip with the solderless Xapter adapter. This is an awesome modchip and is great for what you are trying to do. I even wrote a tutorial for installing a new hard drive with the X3. Here you go!

-Version 1.0 Xbox chipped with the X3
-300gb Maxtor Hardrive
-Xecuter Control Panel
-XBMC Dashboard

Just one thing TheReturn didn't mention..you may, depending on the drive in your xbox, do better burning the bios onto a dvd. If you have a Samsung 605b then cd will be fine.. If it's a philips you may get lucky, but they usually read cd-rw.. If you are one of the unlucky people with a Thomson then you will have to burn on a dvd. but if you are used to running softmodded you know what disks it likes eh.. ;)

And just like TheReturn.. I won't tell you what to spend your money on either.. That wasn't the question :)

Yeah, if you have any other drive other than the Samsung, it is sometimes hard to get stuff to load. I had a Thompson, but I traded with my cousin for a Samsung, he had a unmodded Xbox. I got really lucky.

-Version 1.0 Xbox chipped with the X3
-300gb Maxtor Hardrive
-Xecuter Control Panel
-XBMC Dashboard

or you can FTP the bios like the more advanced user's do which is easier for me than making a bios cd....

This is a very simple procedure, you buy a modchip and a new hard drive, dl Auto installer deluxe, pop everything, install everything you want, then dl slayers 2.6 and lock the hard drive.
