I have been backing up dvd's to Verbatim DVD+R's and they have been playing back finr on my home dvd player, the Denon 3910. I know that Office Depot is having a sale on Ritel DL, but I want to know if anyone has been able to play the Ritek DL backups on a home dvd player? I know that Ridata DL did not work for me.
the only way is by trial and error, or if someone has the same player as you and has tried that media. I stick with the better media: Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell.... here is a media guide:
keep in mind the better media is made in Japan! Verbatim is the only exception (Taiwan). Also if you are buying the +R media try to booktype your drive to record that media as DVD-ROMS (which would make your disk more acceptable to players!). read this:
since you mentioned the Ridata DLs did NOT work for you, the Office Depot brand with the same MID coding, which is RitekD01, will NOT work either~ :)
i have the flagship Denon unit, it's ALWAYS been very picky with my Ridata Ritek DVD+R DLs, MID of RitekD01 i mentioned earlier, on a few occassions, it has been picky with Verbatim DVD+R DLs too (MKM001 MID coding)
there is just something about Denon dvd players, they are HIGH QUALITY units, arguably some of the BEST units made in the market today, but they are not as forgiving when it comes to DVD+R DL media (even with the booktype setting to dvd-rom) :)
i've got well over 200+ DVD+R DLs under my belt at this point (have used many Ridata DVD+R DLs and Verbatim DVD+R DLs with much success) but despite all this, MY Denon stand alone still has issues playing DVD+R DLs properly, regardless of which DLs you choose to use...
on a side note, if u are using Benq drives/burners, DO NOT use Ritek DL media, Verbatim is the ONLY way to go on Benq drives, just a little burning tip to save you some $$ on wasted expensive DL media...

I have about 40 Verbatim DVD+R DL burns so faar, and they al work on my Denon 3910. You must have the 5910? I am assuming once you have the media you could use some sort of software to find the "code". How do you find out the "code" of a dvd that you are trying to buy in a store or online?
that's to find out the MID coding on the manufacturer of said media...

p.s. if the Verbatims all work well for you on YOUR Denon, then stick with them...you had mentioned that the Ridata DLs do NOT WORK, so i was just letting you know that the ones available at Office Depot are the SAME ones, just diff. "branding" :)
