You will need to get the XBox(The one the hard drive goes in) eeprom data, and/or the id tag for the drive lock, and reaaply it to the drive, you won't need to reformat it or anything like that, but you will definitely need to re-lock it with the xboxhdd software, it has an included tutorial, another very good one can be found here. Just make sure that you follow the directions VERBATIM. I neglected to type a word in it's complete form, and wasted an extra couple hours troubleshooting to figure out what the problem was.

I do feel however, one more thing should be added, to avoid mass confusion.

To make this so much easier to understand; Imagine that XBox A has the chip. And XBox B is stock(Or softmod)

XBox A can unlock and relock XBox A's hard drive.

XBox A can unlock XBox B's hard drive.

XBox A can relock XBox B's hard drive to work in XBox A

!!!HOWEVER!!!
If XBox B(with softmod) unlocks the drive, and is turned off; XBox A cannot just relock it to make B fully functional again. The only exception is in the unusual case that you either have XBox B's lock code (Excruciatingly long, and individualized to YOUR system) or you actually backed up the eeprom somewhere. If you backed it up somewhere, you may have an easier time just running the XBox drive format/partition/locking utility that is commonly used to change out drives on softmodded units. That would probably be most effective.

I just want to avoid confusion for the sake of the user who asked.

Usually if you have a modchip it doesn't matter if the HDD is locked or unlocked only softmods must remain locked at all times. So if he has an Exceuter chip then turn the chip on an insert AID v3 disc use its file explorer go to the apps folder and activate config magic and re-lock the HDD.
