I was trying to burn a double layer DVD image using Nero (It was NRG format). I was using a DVD+R DL with the booktype set to DVD-ROM. The disc burned successfully, but when I play it on my PS2 (modded), I get a black screen after the PS2 Logo. I have a Slim Line PS2 (70004).

I read things about ToxicOS and HDLoader, but I don't have a hard drive.

I need help please!

That's the funny part! I don't know!

I can run all PS2 and PS1 backups along with originals, and when I want to run a PS1 game (backup or original) I have to press the reset button 3 times.

I bought the PS2 already modded.

The game I am talking about is Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.

try this. Patch the game with this program before you burn it and then try it again.

This patches dual layer games so that any modchip that can play a dual layer original disc can play the dual layer back up disc you patch with it as well.

there is also a read me file there that should tell you how to use it.

Yeah as long as it's a decent enough modchip it should be able to play DVD-9 backups with that DL patcher steimy linked you to.. it's really quick to run too.

Lucky i have a DMS4 Pro and that feature is built in :)
Sadly it was after i had all the DVD9 games that require it :(

Yeah I'm managing my time a little better now and still managing to hang out at XS a lot and post guides etc.. and visit here from time to time when I can.

I'll have to visit TM some more too.. been a bit sparse there lately. How are you doing steimy?

I downloaded the patcher. It said in the readme that the only supported images are ISO and MDS. The image I have is NRG, so I made an image from the DVD I already burned, using DVD Decrypter to save it as ISO. I applied the patch successfully. I bought a new DVD+R DL and burnt it again.

It DIDN'T WORK! I get a black screen after the PS2 logo. I am begining to despair! The DL DVDs are way too expensive for me.

What did I do wrong? Please guys help me. And I am very sorry if this question has been asked before here.

I made a little experiment, just to make sure that I patched the game correctly. I made an image from the patched DVD and then tried to patch it again. Patching failed, which indicates that the image is already patched.

What are the modchips that support DVD9s? Also, how can I know the modchip that I have? I don't see any screws in my PS2, how can I open it?

Also, is the Toxic BIOS safe? I might try that.

Try Matrix Infinity or DMS4. There are little rubber legs at the bottom of the PS2, you need to remove those before you can access the screws
