This is my first time buying swap magic, and it doesn't seem to be working no matter what I try, I press Normal>Normal and it says loading disk, goes to black screen a little bit then goes to where the memory card is, says comes up with "Please insert PS or PS2 format disk" It's a big PS2 so I use the magic slide. I'm almost positive I'm doing everything right. I put the swap magic in, let it load, use the slide tool to open the disc tray, put the burned game in, close the disc tray, use the magic slide to close it all the way.
P.S. Just to test, I tried using swap magic + slide tool with a normal PS2(non-burnt) and I get the same problem, so it seems to not be working at all.
What is going on =/? Is it my PS2?

There's the first problem. I've heard good and bad things about Fuji DVD's but mostly bad. Are you sure your copies are working? I never tired swap magic to load a real game so I don't know if it should work or not. It sounds to me like you're not doing the slide tool right.
Oh yeah, heard lots of problems about SM 3.8 Coder... I'd say download a copy of 3.6 and use it instead. Boot with 3.8 and swap to burnt 3.6

how would I do that? put 3.8 in, let it load and use the swap tool to open the case and put 3.6 in? or open the CD tray the normal way then use the swap tool? explain a lil please =p im lost.
also, if this wont boot games, im pretty sure it wouldnt let meboot 3.6 then, am i right?

If it won't let you boot 3.6 burned to a good DVD-R then you're not doing the slide tool right. I merely suggested trying the backup of a 3.6 because I've heard alot of people have problems with 3.8 (I use 3.6 and have no problems with Sony DVD+R on a slimline ps2)
If you wanted to try it, then you'd boot 3.8, use slide tool, boot 3.6, use slide tool, boot game.
I'd suggest you get a flip-top lid case for your ps2 if you don't want to mess with a slidecard, or better yet.. a modchip. It seems to me that you're either not using the slide tool right, or you're burning to bad media.

your ps2 v3 is kinda old... like really old.. try burning at 2x... i use fujifilm and my ps2 is a V9 and i cannot play burned games at 4x... so i burn at 1x or 2x.. also try using Alcohol 120% instead...
and yes the slide too has to be used correctly..

I think its a problem with the Swap Magic CODER discs.
I tried my Swap Magic 3.6 discs and they boot my games perfectly.

I use Fujifilm 8x DVD+R disc and they work better than the Sony DVD-R or +R. I put labels on the Sony and it tends to happen when it's a dark label it has a hard time reading. The Fuji haven't had any problems. I bought the Fuji they were on clearance for like $10 for 50 so I couldn't pass em up and they've turned out to be great media. EXCEPT they will not burn above 2.4X, I mean it's like hard coded on the disc, they will not burn above 2.4X even though they claim to be 8X disc. They work fine for me because I rarely burn PS2 games above 4X anyway.
Anyway, so I'm going to say it's a problem with your slide. I also use SM3.6 and 3.8 and haven't had a problem with either. And I burn ALOT of games.

Recently purchase that freak monkey swap magic coder 3.8, cd disc loads with no problem ,but that freaking dvd is the devil it's self,
i had to open my ps2, and tweak the dvd screw, and it only works sometime,i returned the thing, got a new disc and that does the same thing.
I have a ver. 1 and 7 ps2,and it does the same thing, not load at all,
and after tweaking it, i either get the playstation 2 splash,or the playstation 2 splash blue, then the screen turns black and won't load
the dvd disc,or it will load once, then not at all.
they should rebuld the program, and and re-submit us the working version.

OK, this is probably not your problem but is definately worth looking into. Even if your system is working fine. I use swap magic 3.6 and now 3.8 on my v12 slim everything worked beautifully, EXCEPT playing dual layer games. I know you can't play burned DL games with SM I'm referring to my originals. They would not play for anything! One I had never even played more than 5 minutes and my disc was in perfect condition. So I used a little bit of alcohol on a q-tip and cleaned the lens (not a good idea if your on a steady diet of red bull, lol) and problem solved. My PS2 is just now coming up on being a year old so you people with those old PS2s I would say without a doubt your lens needs a good cleaning. I've never cleaned the lenses in any other drive or player I've ever had this is the first time it's ever caused a problem, and I notice my PS2 attracts a massive amount of dust.
Anyway, now my games load faster, and DL media works again. So try cleaning your lens, like I said mine is just now a year old and I've actually been having the problem for months.

I should have mentioned it,i clean my lens every two months, and i've replaced the laser lense in my ver. 1, and my ver. 1 or 7 will not play the dvd disc.
so it's not a dirty lense, or a failing lense, the new lense and the old lense will not play the coder 3.8 dvd disc, and it's my 2nd disc.
the cd disc works, all back up cd games work, all original cd and dvd games boot right up,but that coder dvd will only boot if i tweak the freaking laser, then i lose it.
the ver.1 white dial always goes back to it's orignal position, so i adjust the dvd screw, and it'll load, then if i shut it down and re-boot the ps2 i can't load it again, thats in both versions.
i've checked around, and a few people have a problem or 2 with the coder 3.8.
any other ideas, i need addional input what else could it be,oh yes,i know how to swap out,1 the ver. 7 is a flip top, and the ver. 1 is a swap card.
you'll be surprise at the idiots who swap out incorrectly.

I've heard many people have had problems with the Swap Magic CODER DVD disc, including my self, and its the problem with the disc itself not the PS2.
I tried using my SM 3.3 and it boots up perfectly fine.

I may just opt 4 a previous version, and boot cheats with a AR MAX disc, the reason i was envious of the coder disc was because it had the cheat codes on it.

then it must be that u are using cheap dvd burners or cheap burning software... because the burner means a lot if u are talking about quality... I used to have a toshiba and it was the biggest crap ive ever had.. even the music cds i burned had noise and bad quality.. but I recently bought a Memorex dvd burner with memorex media and Nero 7 premium and none problem with anything since then... Memorex + Memorex Media + Nero = :) Happy Playing... LOL

I just use the DL burner on my laptop MATSHITA UJ-840D. I don't know if it's a good quality drive or not, I do know if I use Sony DVD+R or Fujifilm DVD+R I have no problems. I've also had better luck with the Fujifilms than the Sonys. Sony seem to be good unless you stick a dark covered label on them. I know your not supposed to put labels on DVDs but I don't care I want em on there and I have like 200+ games with nice little labels on everyone and they all play fine.
I dunno, I think it's all just a matter of what hardware you have for what works for you. Alot of people say Fujifilm aren't any good and I've found they work the best for me. Some say you can't put labels on DVDs and I've put em on hundreds and they work fine. I think it all just comes down to what kind of burner your using, what kind of laser you have in your PS2 and if your using labels or not. I guess everyone just has to find the right combination that works for them. Unfortunately, it can be an expensive process for some people.

I tend to think the same way as you on that. I don't use labels but I do print out the covers and buy ps2 cases to put them in. I'm at around 400 NTSC ps2 games so far. I figured it this way. Sony PS2, Sony DVD DL Burner, Sony DVD+R bootyped to DVD-ROM. Fortunately, everything works for me. I don't use labels because frankly it's too damn expensive, especially if you use an inkjet like I do. Kinko's charges 90 cents a page plus time so that's expensive as well.

Labels are cheaper than cases! I buy like 100 labels for $10 and I use an OfficeJet umm.. forget the model (I'm at the office) and after 200+ labels I'm still on the same cartiage. Not to mention my aunt gave me the printer and a bag of catriages to go with. ;D As long as you don't use the high gloss labels. I use memorex full face labels (BTW, just buy the labels you can use a spindle as a stomper for full face labels) and they are cheap. I don't know how many games you burn a months but 100 last me 3 or 4 months. Plus you have a ton of mailing labels left over.
