SO I decided to install Halo CE the other day and I was just wondering if everyone else in the community notices or has the insanely slow speed with it! For some reason I even get hick-ups with Halo! I only have a year old laptop with a 1.4g processor, nvidia gofx6200 with 32 mb, 512 mb ram, etc... basically not a sorry ass system! So why such poor performance? Are there settings that I need to adjust. Any input or info would be appriciated!

Man I feel bad and really hate to be the one to tell you this so don't get mad.

Your gfx card isn't going to play anything newer.32mb is not enough and it's not just about the memory on the gfx chip it's also about what kind of ram it is,how many pipelines it has, what shader's is supports etc.

Same thing with the processor. It's not about the speed. The L2 cache and fsb are extremely important.
Laptops suck for gamming because there not upgradable in the gfx department.Leaving you stuck with that .

You can try tweeking it by updating the drivers from nvidia site. Then going into the control panel and clicking on display now go to setting's and click advanced this should bring up your card settings.

Let me tell you what happened to me.I purchased a toshiba satellite A65 laptop a few years back.It had a 2.8 ghz processor,64mb card, and over 700mb of ram(256mb +512 mb) and it still didn't do jack.I got ripped because of my lack of knowledge about pc gaming and got rid of it on ebay and bought a new desktop that plays everything now.

can you please explain what GFX is, and also what the L2 cache, fsb, # of pipelines, shader's etc are? I have a new laptop with 64mb, 2GHz, 1024 RAM, 80Gb 5200 rpm, and thats pretty much all I know - will this be any good with games?

I appriciate your honesty and your knowledge! Thank you for replying. I really thought about getting a desktop again simply for the upgradable options you are provided. But alas.....I spent what money I had on this crappy Inspiron 8600. Next time I will do some research or by an alienware PC! I hear from lots that they kick-ass! Thanks again!

@ depaladin it would take alot of work to explain that and you probably would not know the technical lingo and I would have to explain that too.So here is a few links about gfx.Gfx =graphics as in graphics card. It's the main resource games need these days.By the way those wern't the only things to consider I can't list them all.

The rule of thumb. The more the better
Pipeline

FSB

L2 cache

shaders

here is a compairison of what a 32mb card has

and here's a newer but not newest card has.

See the difference.

@DanandJen Thank you.I try to help because I went through the same thing and lost lot's of money in the process.I was very disappointed myself. To this day I buy nothing named toshiba.I feel they purposely deceive consumers for there own advantage.

You don't need an alienware they are to expensive for what they offer.
Always stick with AMD prefferably a 64 or better and pci-e.

here's what I got.

AMD 3500+ 2.2 ghz processor
250 gb hdd
ati x800gt 256 mb graphics card
1024 mb of ddr ram
450 watt psu

I couldn't afford the best graphics card at the time so I got the x800gt and am happy still even a year later I can play every game on the market but it's getting old and was outdated even before I got it.Don't get the latest and greatest gfx card stay behind a release or two and you'll be happy and save money..

These guys are great, trusted, and cheaper than alienware. If you ever get a hold of pc game magazines this company is sure to be there. They let you customize it.http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

On the bright side an xbox or ps2 is like $129.

you both can still play RTS AND RPG games. But not many that are 3d intensive like halo.A rule of thumb is to download demo's first before you buy. They can be found here http://www.download.com/ just search for it.

Some games you might be able to play:
dungeon siege(yeah!)
everquest
max payne 1 and 2
XII
AND THESE.....

If you like old console games like the old mario, zelda etc.download this it's free http://www.download.com/PlayNow/3000-2102_4-10413133.html?tag=lst-0-1
