Hi peeps,

Can anyone tell me if there is an app that enables one to take a high bitrate MP3 and convert it to a lower bitrate MP3/WMA WITHOUT the decode to .wav/.pcm in the middle of the process (thus losing quality)?

This would be particularly useful for those of us with --alt preset extreme/insane encodes that we need to re-encode for memory limited portables. Thanks!

There is nothing like this. It should be theoretically posible for mp3->mp3 but forget mp3->wma.

In Ogg Vorbis there's a feature called bitrate peeling, but no working programs for this so far.
