if it's an original then it's most likely the laser, try cleaning the laser lens

really why would I bother writing on here if I didnt do that all it does is read the disk then it dont load it goes too the browser where you see the memory cards and the game disk but i do know the laser works because the cleaner disk worked.

when you say the cleaner disk you meant one with a brush on it? (bad for the lens)
Those things (and DVD movies) are easier to read for PS2 than the games, so it could be that your laser is on the verge of dying.

how old is the PS2? If it's not opened and still under warranty you can get it fixed for free, otherwise you can look at getting a new laser or get a new one

ok so the warranty is out? In that case... a slim PS2 laser you are looking around $30-40 (usually includes installation), so it's your choice what you want to do, but I'd say no matter what you do, get a laser fix to prevent the laser from dying again

Game discs are just harder to read for some reason...
Have a look in the sticky about why the laser does this

Lol, it's annoying when the manufacturer fixes something and it comes back with more faults, that happens ALL the time...
yeah you need modchip or swap magic to play backups, I got matrix infinity in mine as well as a laser fix (don't want my laser to die - you can usually get a laser fix for free when you get a modchip installed, even if you have to pay for it it's likt $5-10), it's a great way to make sure your games don't get scratched, play import games, or just trying out a game to see if you like it before you buy it
