hi, I want to ask if you can help me figure what's wrong with my PS2, I have a modded ps2 and here's my problem
Ps2 original works fine, backup dvd works, but some games have skipping audio and fmv, cd backup works, but somehow my hdloader cd couldn't work, action replay cd works but every time I put the games, it went to the browser screen and then to red screen asking to insert ps2 disc, even original game.
my problem is everything works fine a week ago, so I figure something inside the ps2 must be worn out or something, so can anyone help me figuring out what's the problem? at first I thought the lens is worn out but all games boot up instantly, my friend's ps2 have worn lens and his games usually go to browser selection first before it boot up the games.
any help appreciated, thank you

Couple of things:
1) Laser is dying
2) Media/burning, what media did you use and how fast did you burn it?
My friend's PS2's laser is quite weak, and it boots originals fine, but takes a lot of tries to boot backups

I've tried to clean the lenses, the skipping video and audio seems reduced but I'm not sure, it's kinda random, one game I tried right after cleaning the lens only have one moment where it skip, but later when I tried it again the skipping increase again. I don't want to try recalibrate the lens myself, I've tried that in my previous post and all I did is make it worse and I have to change the whole lens at some store, so maybe I'll ask someone to callibrate it to me, will it fix it though? or is it only prolonging the lens from dying?
and do you know a good brand for cd backup, I know taiyo yuden DVD-R is recommended from other thread, but what about the cd? is taiyo yuden cd also a good media for ps / ps2 cd backup?

What version is your PS2? It might be worth getting a laser fix installed to prevent damage, and if you have an old PS2 you could get a HDD and play games from that, that's what I do so I don't damage my laser, and no problem with the DVD media cos I don't use it.
As for CDs, I've found that just about anything works, but I mainly use Ritek (easiest thing to get for me here) and that works great

my ps2 is version 50006 NTSC japan, and I've been using HD for awhile, not for all games since I sometimes get lazy too attach my HD to a pc, I plan to use HD again because of the skipping fmv and audio, but when I want to do it again, my ps2 can't even read the hdloader cd, which is why I start posting in this forum, I tried to burn a hdloader dvd iso, it read the dvd and I got the playstation screen but after that it went to browser screen for a second and then to red screen asking ps2 disc.
right now I'm using the cheap memorex cd-r and it didn't work at all, I'll try ritek later

Here's the spec for a Magic V: http://www.mod-chip.com/en/magicvplus.php
Was hoping that if it can boot programs from your MC or something then you can put HDLoader on your MC and then you wouldn't need to use the laser again, but doesn't look like it supports it...
You could get someone to calibrate the laser for you and get it so that it runs HDLoader DVD, and then just use the HDLoader DVD to load games from your HDD?

I actually still don't understand why hdloader dvd couldn't work, I burned it the sameway I burned other ps2dvd backup, I start to think it's because of the iso or something, I'll try to find another iso for hdloader dvd, I dl it long time ago, I forgot where I get it

I've burned a hdloader to verbatim cd-r, and although my ps2 seems struggling playing it (it go to browser selection menu for a second) it worked fine, I can use my HD again now. my only problem right now is my ps2 can never to read a disc if I use action replay max or any other cheat device, even using mu original disc, well it's not that big of a deal anyway.
thanks for your help regarding my ps2

No worries :) There's a thread around somewhere that tells you how to use action replay with HDD games... you'll have to do a search for it though as I don't have the link for it
