Hi,
Am using DVD Decrypter + Nero Recode, when trying to back up "Unleashed" (Jet Li, Morgan Freeman) DVD Decrypter freezes during the copy of VTS_01_04, and won't go any further, leaving me with a DVD folder of only 3.8 GB - only half or so of the entire disc.
Has anyone else had similar probs?? Any suggestions as to how to get around this?

There's nothing special about this movie. Check your disc for scratches or fingerprints. Did you notice if Decrypter was retrying to read that file and how many retries it did? You should have gotten an error message.

Yeah - have checked for scratches, fingerprints, etc... it appears to be fine, I got no error message, the bar graph just stopped and didn't keep moving, and I got a "not responding" message when I tried to close program - it stopped in the same place of the same vts track a few times - which does seem to confirm your scratch theory... but it appears fine just looking at it

In the settings, try lowering your read speed to something like 4x.

I would clean the disk even though it doesn't look to be scratched or fingerprinted. Otherwise, get another copy of the disk to rip. Could be a bad press..... but usually the clean of the disk makes it work ......... and lowering the speed for reading a problem disk is good advise...... also try to use Brute Force in the TOOLS/SETTINGS/CSS tab.

Sometimes using AnyDVD with DVDDecrypter will help too. but if you are getting read errors it does usually mean the disk is dirty.

I got to agree, it sounds like a bad disk. Even though it may look fine, their may be some minute scratch stopping the data. Have you tried DVDFab Decrypter to rip, it sometimes does better with scratched disks, or even another drive. Sometimes another drive will do it, where the first one won't.

good advise Arniebear! I forgot about those ideas, even though I do them when I have to. It's second nature and I forget to mention those little things do help. LOL

Thanks guys - I'm certain it's a disc / drive error, as when I put the disc into my drive, it takes ages to show up in "my computer" and 50% of the time it doesn't even recognise it at all. But as I only have the one dvd drive on my PC, I think I may have run into a brick wall. I looked in the DVD Decrypter settings, but couldn't find an option to turn the speed down - I have dvdfab express - maybe thats a smaller version
