when i'm using a120% or dvd dcrypter and i select the iso file instad of the mds file, my back ups do play, but am i hurting the long term play life of my disks? is it bad to choose the iso instead of the mds file?

No, it's not bad at all.

The mds file just tells the program what to burn...which is the same thing that you are burning.

It'll give you the exact same result, the only time you HAVE to choose the mds file is when you have multiple image files of the same thing, then you need to use the mds file to tell the program what needs to be burnt to the disc

For example when I back up DL games (God of War/50 Cent) onto a DLK disc I choose the MDS file, but otherwise for single layer games the ISO file should be fine (if it's not DVD Decrypter will tell you).
