Hey Im new to this audio stuff. Im looking to buy a reasonable reciever. I have read that watts dont really matter, so I'll just ask you. Im looking at this reciever:http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...est%5Fcookie=1

I want a reciever for watching movies some times loud and listening to music. Do you believe this a decent reciever or is this missing really big features. Mind you I dont really care about DTS.(Im a dolby man)

thank you

I'm a DTS man and you don't know what you are missing. LOL. I clicked on your link but it doesn't go to the page you want us to look at. Just post the Brand and Model.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

He did list it in the thread title.............
It seems to have everything you'll need, unless you need HDMI switching. Of course, at your price point, you're not gonna have a lot of digital inputs (digital coax or optical). JVC gives a lot of bang for the buck. As long as you don't have a lot of equipment to hookup to it, you should be ok. I have and use a JVC, and love it. I've had two in the past 14 years. The first one was a Dolby Pro Logic receiver. I had it for 9 years. I upgraded to a 5.1 receiver, and have had it almost 5 years. Never a minute's trouble from either one.

Here is a link to it:

If you get it, let us know how you like it.

You are right. He did told us the model. If you take a look at the time I posted my answer, you'll know why I missed it. Damn insomnia!!!

I'm a big fan of JVC, Pioneer and Yamaha receivers. It has nice features, but it bothers me that it has a 10% THD. To me that's too high. Other receivers keep it below 1%.

Here's a list of some models within the $180-$200 price range.

Yamaha HTR-5830 5.1 Home Theater Receiver

YAMAHA HTR-5930 5.1 Home Theater Receiver

Pioneer VSX-515-K 6.1 Home Theater Receiver

PIONEER PIO VSX516-S 7.1 Home Theater Receiver

JVC RX-D205S 7.1 Home Theater Receiver

JVC RXD206B 7.1 Home Theater Receiver

JVC RX-D201S 7.1 Home Theater Receiver

Some of the models are discontinued, especially the 5.1 models. For that reason you can get them very cheap. I just listed them in case you have a tight budget. If I were you, I'd take a look at the 7.1 Receivers since you can use them in a 5.1 and 6.1 setting too.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?
