i have noticed that sometimes when you download an album its comes in one long audio file and i have heard of programs that will automatically split the files into appropriate tracks but when i tried some it wanted you to do it all manually and i was wondering if anyone could tell me one that automaticall detects the pauses and splits the album into the right tracks

I remember back in 2004 on these forums there was a question just like this in the "audio" forum. Try searching there to see if someone knew.

Audacity will probably work if you do it manually.

Wow you must got to some crappy places w/ some crappy rippers. I've never actually seen a whole album as one track w/ the exception of comedy albums...but even then rarely then.

I'm not actually sure how someone would manage to do it all as one track, since the ripping software jumps track to track to track.

I don't know how a program could "automatically" rip it into chunks either, because it wouldn't know where it started/ended. I mean sure, it could detect pauses, but you'd have to adjust the sensitivity, and it would vary greatly by the quality of the source...so...eww.

Audacity is your best bet I think. It's VERY easy to use, I use it to make mp3 ringtones all the time.

crappy places wtf i downloaded it lol and if you get hold of albums off the internet you will find that generally they come as one track :)

Uhm...well, lol, no. I've got a 40Gb hdd filled to capacity w/ mp3's, and I can assure you that the ONLY long mp3's ever are CHAPTERS of books, say...The hobbit.

I mean, I might be wrong, but I don't know how anyone can even RIP a disc today and have it be all one track?

I'm not insulting, you're just blowing my mind. Anyone else have 2 cents on this one?

Sorry, I have to laugh! Any album can be ripped in one file...I have a few album "unslipt". I leave them as they are. I haven't found a way to spit them either.

i found one program but i think it splits it up to much i am still experimenting with the settings :) glad someone has the same experience as me and to say that i have 200gb of mp3's beat that lol but i have only seen this sometimes and it is always with torrents :)

I have had this problem a few times (tho' a long time ago) and is quite easy to overcome if you use Nero burning Rom to burn your cd's. It has a neat little editing prog to allow you to manually insert spaces between the tracks. As I am not at home and dont have access to Nero at work I will try to explain as best as possible within my fading memory.

Open Nero and Start a new Audio cd compilation. Add your audio file to the left hand pane. Double click this audio file and choose the centre tab (I think that's the editor) The file will then be scanned and will be shown as a sound wave graph. You can then edit this file. You can zoom in and the gaps will become apparent, if not you can listen to it and choose the gaps manually, where the tracks start/end. Just insert a break. When you have segmented the file just ok it (twice I seem to remember) Nero editor will then insert a 2 second break between tracks. You can then burn the resultant tracks as one album with all the tracks being recognised by your player of choice.
