@ eternalis
Woo that webpage gives me a headache. Who did the layout. Looks to be promising tho :)
@paul0617
If you bought it brand new, more then likely you will have 2.01. You will have to upgrade to 2.5, then use the 2.5 to 1.5 downgrader. Once there it opens up the whole world of psp possibilities. After you get to 1.5 you are able to run your legitimate backups(ISO's). If you do decide to downgrade your psp to 1.5 you are going to want to look into devhook. If you have any more questions feel free to add to this thread or pm someone here at aD.

Do you mean that you have a headache cos the text goes off the borders or because of the template?
I'm using a content management system called Joomla. And it keeps on doin tht, it's annoying! I'll hav to figure out how to fix it.

Yeah, how the text runs out of the sides of the lil boxes from the templates you use. I think that could be fixed with a simple formatting tag. Cant remember which one it is. But i think im going to sign up on your site soon. Thumbs up on getting it on the net.

i'm thinking of getting a psp as well, but a few things i'm still confused about...
1) if i get a psp as of today (july 8 2006), the version i'll probably end up with is 2.01? not 2.5/2.6/2.7?
2) after somehow getting that version down to a ver 1.5, i'll need to use devhook to emulate v 2.6 to play the newer games?
3) does this mean, if i use the devhook, i won't need anything else (no other umd or programs or launchers or patchers) to run the ISO's?
thanks in advance, really looking forward to play that new tekken :P

1.)It could be either of those . Check one of the FAQs on the first page, it tells you how to tell the firmware version by the label on the box. You can only downgrade 2.0, 2.5 and 2.6 at the moment (and only 2.6's that are not factory 2.6's can be downgraded).
2.)Yes.
3.)At the moment all you need is DevHook. However you might have to do some fixing to the ISO. Check my guide for more info: http://eternal-psp.a22.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view...

You are also going to need a single UMD. You absolutely dont need one but it most definetly helps. You can use the demo UMD. Never leaves my psp.

Yep that is correct im glad you corrected me. If youre playing a 1.5 game you dont need one. I should have worded my post differently too. Absolutely was absolutely the wrong word to use, leaves the wrong impression. But most games are 2.0+. But ya like I said It's good to have one. Thanx for that point tho eternalis.

ahhh, thanks for that prompt replies guys!
i've read that "box letter version" topic you've mentioned before, but i couldn't find it again.... :S
so a few more question than:
1) i'll need to have a UMD in the drive if i want to run anything 2.0+, but the demo disc that came with the PSP should be enough?
2) if not, which game should i buy/use for this purpose?
3) with a v1.5 PSP if i put in a legit UMD in it it should run with no problems, right? :D

Well it will run if its a 1.5 UMD. Anything past that will tell you that you need to upgrade. Thats why we have devhook to emulate the 2.5 firmware. What great wonders these programmers can come up with. If you need any help with devhook or anything psp related just ask, were here to help :)

You are correct on everything except number 4. You can run legitimate UMDS. But some UMDS require a higher firmware version then 1.5 to run. For instance Splinter Cell Essentials requires 2.6. But you can still get them to run with devhook as devhook FULLY emulates the 2.5 firmware. If there is a game such as splinter cell essentials that requires 2.6 and your emulating 2.5 with devhook.....you can do a lil bit o patching to get it to run on 2.5. Here soon we will be able to emulate 2.71 tho. Hope that clears it up for ya and I didnt confuse you. Any more questions just ask.

ah, thank you very much. i learned a lot :P
time to run out and grab a 2.01 or 2.5 PSP somewhere, hehe. actually, this leads to another question....
i know the letters on the box determines what version firmware the PSP has, but that thread i found only has it up to:
A-1.50
B-1.51
C-1.52
D-2.00 Unconfirmed
E-2.00 Unconfirmed (likely 1.52)
F-2.00
G-2.01
so... what letter is used for 2.5? and 2.6? (since i'm told i need to avoid PSP with v2.6 build in, i need to know what letter to avoid...)

Yeah you still need gta:lcs. As the savegame xploit is the only way you can load homebrew on a 2.5/2.6. If you look right underneath that there is quite a few posts asking the same thing. Sorry tho u still need it. I have another post entitled Identifying Homebrew Friendly Copies Of GTA:LCS that will aid you in identifying a homebrew compatible version. Well here ill link you. :)

There ya go!
Also I do not believe sony has installed 2.5 or 2.6 on any of the newer psps yet. I have bought a couple very recently and none of them were past 2.01 and none of them were TA-082 models either.

Swapping prx files. Splinter cell is intended to run on only 2.6. Swap some prx's and BLAM works on 2.5. I call it patching, more of a file swap.
