HDD not loading games

I installed a 40gb Western Digital HDD into my ps2 today, and and loaded HD Loader using a swap disc. HD Loader formatted the drive with no problems. I used HD Loader to install a game (Metal Saga) using a backup DVD, but when I try to play the game off the HDD, the screen stays blank.

I also installed a game using a retail disc (Armored Core: Nexus) and that game plays fine off the HDD.

So why won't the games installed using a backup DVD work?

I have a v5(I think) fat ps2 with a flip-top case. I have the free version of HD Loader. I don't have a modchip.

at a guess the game needs to have a mode set or is not compatible - had a look here: http://list.ps2hd.com/ but couldn't find any info on it, try mode 3 and mode 1 and see if that helps, otherwise you may have to live with playing the game off the disc

Yeah i had that with Jak&dax1, and found it needed all 3 modes enabled for it work.
