I recently purchased a new compaq Presario computer and on its description it says that it has tv-port and dvi capabilities.
So does it mean that the Tv-port is for connecting to the tv? and what is DVI then? I am very confused and the manual book doesnt talk about it much. Does anyone else know? PLease tell me.
The TV port on the graphics card is generally a S-VHS port (Super-VHS), DVI used to mean digital video input, but I have seen it as digital video interface. DVI is for digital monitors or the digital input for a digital TV, LCD, Plasma etc!
Just a side note, with S-VHS, the connector you see in the first link is picture only, you need separate cables for your left & right sound channels.
From what I gather S-VHS is very common in the US. In Europe we have SCART (Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs connectors), The US do not appear to have SCART TVs, DVD players or Video recorders. They (SCART) provide picture & sound (only in stereo though) it is not capable of 5.1 surround sound.
My old Panasonic has both S-VHS & SCART connectors, from what I can see SCART is a better picture. I am sure others will have differing opinions to mine!
