the nintendo Wii has gamecube controller ports because it is backwards compatible with the gamecube. furthermore, if developers decided they wanted to develop a game for the Wii but didn't want to utilize the Wii-mote motion sensing functions, than they could certainly develop a game that used regular controllers. (Super smash bros: brawl, for example.)
You can not, however, use a gamecube controller to play a wii game that requires the motion sensing wii-mote. Wii sports will only work with the wiimote.

Well, you should make your final decision after you experienced it for yourself. If you don't like it, then there isn't a whole lot of reason to shell out a couple hundred dollars for it.
unless you care that much about super smash bros and old school nintendo games...

Im sure when brawl comes out it will make the Wii worth buying just for it. the controller looks great and when it comes out you will probably be able to try it at a store display and decide based on that
X2 3800, A8n deluxe motherboard, 7800GT, Xion 2 case
2GB Patriot DDR 400, Audigy 2 ZS gamer, 400GB SATA RAID 0
games Im looking forward to: bioshock, SSBB, enemy territory quake wars, halo 3
currently playing: command and conquer 3, supreme commander, counter strike, shivering isles

Can you imagine the line-up to play the demo instore? I'd love to give the Wii a test run before I buy it, just to reinforce my choice to buy it.
I think shortly after the Wii is launched we're going to see announcements about more gcn controller only games. While the new wii-mote is neat, nobody wants to be waving their arms around to play a game _all_ the time. Sometimes relaxation is the aim, where a more stationary controller would be prefferable.

Yeah thats what i was thinking about, Cantide, if i get up or something one morning and what to play a nice game its not really that suitable for me to be swinging around....although it doesn't accutally require THAT much movement...

I don't think this will be the case. The whole point of the console is using this special dontroller. If someone wants to play games with a traditional controller, there are far better options out there. Without the gimmick of the wiimote factored in, I don't think the Wii can stand on it's own

I think you will be able to play with "normal" console controls...think about the old NES/SNES games they are bringing back...You won't be able to play them with the Wii-mote! There will be some games that utilize both Wii-mote movement and "regular" controllers i think

Nice, see so there is like a other "regular" controller out their to use...but its intended for the NES/SNES games i think...
Does it come standard with the console when you buy it? or do you have to buy it seperately as a new attachtment?

They haven't stated what will be included with the box yet .. I hope for the classic controller and Nunchaku to be included, but they probably wont be.
I'm hoping it will be possible to use a gcn remote with Virtual Console games

The wiimote is the wireless controller for the Wii console. It is the standard controller (looks like a Television remote control)Quote: ,and Virtual controllers.Am i right? There will be available the "Classic Controler" which is used to play the Virtual Console games. These games are NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, N64 and Turbo Grafx 16 games that will be downloaded online with the Wii console (using a wireless router or usb LAN adapter to connect to Nintendo's server)
The Wii games will be on regular 12cm sized single and dual layered dvds (the drive will also accept Game Cube 8cm game disks)

I have a couple quick questions:
Since the wii controller is cordless and the gamecube one has a corde and they can plug into the Wii, Will you be able to play with eight people.(4 with Wii controller,4 with gamecube or classic controller)

Yes, it absolutely can.
In fact, almost all of your current GCN hardware will be compatible with the wii. The Game Boy Advanced Player is the only exception that I am aware of.
