Help with Valkyrie Profile burning for PS2 usage

I made copies of my original game because I heard eventually it gets a retry error, and I suppose the copies came in handy because the scratches on it started giving them to me. So naturally I burned a copy or two.. or THREE and all of them have the same problem. Right after you get out of the Artolian Mountain Ruins and select world map and click yes... it goes black and there's a little icon that says "retry" on the bottom right.

Now not only that, but I've went as far as downloading two different rips than the one I made from my legit copy and they STILL don't work. Anyone have any advice here? I don't really want to use an emulator because it doesn't look right to me.

I have a DMS4 EZI Lite and I used Fujifilm CD-Rs.

it could be a game specific problem, have you tried rebuilding? I can't find anything threads on this topic, but it's unlikely that all the discs have scratch at the same place... or maybe it needs a patch?
