In my sig is the specs for my pc. I'm trying to get some real assistance. I've had very few problems with my burner. It's always been software or media as the root of the problem the few times there was one. This time it's the burner for sure and I don't know what's wrong. It won't read a music cd or burn one and it won't read a movie dvd or burn one. I've checked the Device Manager and it shows it working properly. I haven't done anything differently than normal. I thought about updating the firmware but that hardly seems like a fix, since it won't read store-bought cd's/dvd's. I insert a dvd/cd, the light comes on, as if reading, then goes off and nothing. When trying to burn music, it reads the disc are dirty. These are new disc. Using TY, Verbatim, Ritek with no success in cd-r or DVD+R. Tried using different progs and all with the same result. I did use a laser cleaner moments ago but no change.

YOBUZZB- Sorry to hear your having problems with your Nec Burner ! I have a NEC-2500A & A Nec-3500 & I have'nt had a Problem with either yet ! The 2500A has been turned into an external drive ! The 3500 Is mainly being used as a reader though it records just fine ! I replaced the 2500A's place in my computer with a BenQ Dw-1655 which I use as my main burner. I had a somewhat similar problem with my Philips DVDR-72 Stabdalone recorder ! It worked fine for about 2years then suddenly it began giving me {Disc ERROR ) ! messages on every disc I tried to burn ! Which according to the manual for it is either from dirty /scratched or deffective disc ! This happened with all brands of media I used ! I tried a disc Cleaner as you have already and spraying the drive with Canned air ( Dustoff) but neither seemed to work ! I paid $200.00 US for the Deck when I bought it and Figured that it was more than likely the Laser failing ! And would cost atleast $100.00US to fix /have fixed ! I ended up Buying a Liteon -5005 Standalone recorder from Newegg.com for about $123.00 US and it works great ! Given that your 2100 is probably older than my 2 Nec's ( 2500A &3500) even if you updated your firmware as you said you have DVD burners are constantly being upgraded Technically as well as on the Frmware/software areas ! And being that Your 2100 won't play Commercial ( Pressed ) CD's & DVD's I Think your Laser is probably Kaput ! You can get a new Deck/Burner for far less than it will cost to fix your old one ! I have the DW-1655 which I paid Considerably more for when I bought it !The only difference in the two models is 1655 is lightsribe capable and the 1650 is not ! Were I buying a burner Today I would probably Get The 1650 cost less same deck minus the lightscribe feature ! Also Go To Benq's website & download Qsuite - Software if you get this deck!
