it just puts more stress on the laser which will probably make the ps2 break down much quicker than if they were on dvd's.

I'm not too sure about that. I think it has more to do with how you take care of your discs. If you're rough with them and they obtain scratches, I think that stresses the laser more than whether it's a cd game or not. As in point, I have a v12 slim ps2 and haven't had a single problem with cd games, cd game backups, ps1 backups, anything on cd or dvd. I'm supposed to have the worst laser put in the ps2 but I bought the thing the day the redesigned ps2 came out.
All of my backups are kept in those DVD cases you can buy, and get ripped off at the same time, at Best Buy for $11.99 for 10 cases, or you can dumpster dive behind blockbuster video. But I honestly think it's how you take care of your ps2, your discs, and not being rough with the stuff.

hmm,i dont boot any cd's really, most of the games are crap anyway.
i convert them to dvd disk just in case, and put them in storage
cd's spin much faster than dvd's,thats the reason why most people convert them,i personally dont like the way it sounds, but thats just my opinion on it
as for any real proof that they burn the laser out quicker remains to seen, but it cant be doing it any good.

yeah your dead right hursty, play a backup CD and listen to the disc doing a zillion RPM's and the laser is constantly moving, the same game on DVD is pretty much silent. Think wear and tear!
