Hi everyone,

I have a couple of things i would like to do but am not sure how to go about doing them efficiently.
Firstly, i have a 4.6GB video file on a DVD. I would like to rip this to my computer, add some files and menus to this and burn them all to a new dvd (im aware i would need to compress the files a bit, but the things im adding dont add up to much so it should still be fairly decent quality). I tried ripping the dvd to my computer with Magicdvd and i got my MPEG-2 file but when i view it, the quality is significantly different to the original DVD.

My second problem is with another large video file of equal size. I would like to rip it to my laptop (if any products are better than magic dvd i wouldnt mind buying them)and then edit it to correct audio that goes out of sync about half way through. When i tried to open the MPEG-2 file i ripped with magic dvd in power director, the program stopped responding. I even waited for ages to see if it was actually loading the file but it still didn't respond.

I apologise for the huge amount of help im asking for but i'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanks

Hey dude

Dont apologise for asking for help.

All you need to do is go and buy pinnacle studio 8
Install it, update it, read the manual through, and presto.

You can do everything with this program.

But it will cost you a bit.

Configurability is only part of the story, as proven by Pinnacle Studio 8 ($99.99 direct). Pinnacle Studio has decent editing tools, though it doesn't compare to VideoStudio in configurability.

Pinnacle Studio includes an impressive assortment of fun tools for adding finishing touches to a project. For example, Pinnacle Studio has particularly good title creation tools, offering superior placement controls and attractive style presets, as well as advanced controls for kerning and leading. The program offers Hollywood FX transitions for such events. Even more choices are available in Plus Hollywood Effects ($49.99).

Pinnacle Studio has excellent audio tools. Whereas Ulead VideoStudio, like Movie Maker 2, lets you adjust the volume only for an entire track at a time, with Pinnacle Studio you can adjust the volume at any point on the track, and an audio mixer lets you adjust the volume levels of tracks in real time. Pinnacle Studio also includes an integrated version of SmartSound, a program that lets you easily create theme-based, custom-length musical soundtracks.

Pinnacle Studio provides flexible DVD-authoring capabilities, while VideoStudio's offerings are much more limited. Pinnacle Studio is relatively light on special effects, but its most significant weakness is an anemic 320-by-240 preview window.

I haven't encountered major problems in testing it.

There are many consumer-oriented video editors, including Broderbund's MovieShop and ArcSoft's ShowBiz. These products often have flaws and limitations. For example, in ShowBiz the trimming controls?the bread and butter of any video editor?are very primitive. And MovieShop limits your ability to view layers simultaneously.
