I updated my Sony DRU-720A to their new firmware JY08 from their website. I was unable to disable my DMA settings before I flashed the drive. When I was done the computer told me new drive found Sony JY08, however my computer ran rrrreeeaaalll slow and the recorder would not produce playable DVD's.
I restored my box to an earlier time and the drive went back to the previous model with the new firmware still showing in Nero tools. When I record now it produces playable recordings however the Nero software says unknown process when recording.
Seems to be pretty screwed up, what can I do to correct the problem?

You could try to reflash. I don't quite understand you not being able to disable your DMA settings. Why not? Unless you have a USB burner, the DMA settings are under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, and your Sony should be under the Secondary IDE Channel listing.

You simply change it to PIO mode, then reflash.

It is best to wait for Sony to get back to you, but it is possible the firmware update killed your burner.

BTW, System Restore has nothing to do with hardware, firmware updates. Once you update firmware, it is there for the duration, until you reflash to an older firmware or flash to a newer firmware. Sometimes, once you flash to a newer firmware, there is no going back, but the help file for that firmware will usually say whether or not you can flash back to an earlier firmware.
