Hi!Just got my xbox360 today.I was excited too much because when i switched it on,the disc tray opens by itself.Even if i push the close button it will close but quickly after it will re-open.I think that the problem comes from the open/close button and and that maybe inside there's something pushing on that making it always open.

What you guys think about that?I don't think so they will send me back a new one,but rather to try fix the problem.Do you think it's a serious problem or is it just a small one and no problem if they send it back to me repaired?

Hi,Well I think you can answer it your self I mean can you see any logical explanation or something pushing it?

I would take it back.Don't take it apart for this.I don't think it's a serious problem but also not one you want to fuss with and possibly void the "take back" policy.

I wish you're right man and that it's not a serious problem. You don't have any idea how stressed i am actually. As you said,if it's not a big deal then i can accept getting it back after the repair.Really sometimes electronic devices suck and can really make people become crazy!Tommorow i'll rush to the store where i bought that and see what ca be done.Hope it's nothing serious and only something making pressure on that button.

By the way it's been switched for only 25-30 minutes and i noticed it gets quite hot.Is it the same for others too?Btw i'm using a power converter to reduce the 220V to 110V,as it is a japanese one.But after the repair,is it ok to use it without an additional fan or should i quickly go find one(which is very hard to find) to cool that machine down?

Thanks for the answer tycobb.

Yeah I would exchange it don't even bother with the repair.Put your receipt on the counter and say you want a refund or exchange and they will do it.It's odd that you have a japanese one.Where did you get this from?

It's funny you mention the heat because I was just taking about it a minute ago here a link just go down to the 4th post.Yes it's normal.

I know it will look weird but actually i'm in Shanghai and here these xbox360 are sold in game shops and they have some which are supposed to go to Hong Kong/Singapore and some to Japan.Unfortunately when i bought mine there was only the Japan one left,so took it plus bought a power converter as here the voltage is 220V.

By the way, here they already have modded xbox360 and they do sell the copy games too,one copy game is sold around $4(USD).And the one i bought is a modded one too. Here they mostly use chipset than flashing the firmware to make it able to play copy games.I'm not really from here, that's the reason of buying it here and would bring it in Mauritius because there, these xbox360 are nowhere to be found and if some places have it,they won't be able to make it play copy games before at least two to three years.I know that's funny! But in case there's any problem,no big deal because i do come here often.

Oh...wow Yeah I didn't know.Well I don't know if you can take it back over there for an exchange or not.I thought this was like circuit city or something lol but when you said japanese version it caught my eye.

That's great you get those cheap prices. Also with a modchip in place you can probably play region free. Most mod chip allow you to play games from any source!

It sucks because it seems like such a small problem but if the tray keeps opening theres not much you can do unless your a tech.It must be frustrating I know.

Hi tycobb!

Today i went to that store for my disc tray problem. And guess what? There it worked fine at the very first try.The problem apparently comes from that thin transparent plastic which covers the door of the disc tray. You know what i'm talking about? The one they put on the chrome colour parts of the xbox360(disc tray and the hard disk outside part).Well they removed that plastic from the beginning before switching the machine on and that's how it plays perfectly. And right now i'm fully enjoying that new baby!

Really this xbox 360 can get an award in making people look stupid.First i did not even understand why the controller can't function, then i remembered from reading some posts here in AD where some starters same as me asked that same question and should in fact hold the big button for few seconds to activate it.

Man!Yesterday i was so worried like hell and i did not even sleep well,i think i got only three hours of good sleep.thanks God it's nothing and it works well.

But i would like to thank you buddy for the assistance you brought me yesterday. Was really nice from you.

Glad you got it under control.Lol I fell for the controller button thing too.I actually joked around about it with skater on another thread. It's to bad skater's didn't work out.

I'm concerned with the quality on mine as well the heat was alarming to me at first too so I looked around and I guess it's normal.Hope it lasts because the thing seems so fragile .But it has held up so far and I enjoy it.

Hey tycobb!
Glad to hear you.I don't know if you have already read my post in skater's thread, but i got my 360 replaced by another new one.The disc tray problem on the first 360 was real afterall.Because while playing at home, the problem's always on and off and this morning i rushed back there in that store and raised my voice over the staff.I even showed them a little recording i made while i got the problem at home, just to back me up in case things work fine at the shop like the first time.Even after showing them that recording they were still not yet very well convinced that there's actually a real problem. They even said that the problem may be due to the power converter that i'm using actually.Really, who would be so stupid like that to fall into that, that a power converter is the reason of this kind of problem???

After some talks, they tried the 360 and as usual it worked fine till i asked them to switched it off and swithched it on again after a little pause. That's when the problem finally appeared in front of everyone and quickly decided to give me another new one.I even tried the new one as precaution and it worked fine. Now i really hope that this one's not going to drive me nuts and gonna last for quite a very long time, just like my PS2.

P.S:However i lost all my saved games while giving the old 360 back, but that's not a big deal, will start all over again, the most important is that i got myself a brand new 360.Cross fingers now that it will be fine!!!
