I recently modded my Xbox that I purchased last August. The Matrix chip worked. I now bought 3 Matrix chips and a new Xbox currently availble for $179 (+2 free games). I am now am having the problem with the matrix light on green but when I boot up it says "Microsoft" rather than "Matrix Inside". I tried all 3 chips and then changed bios on the chips and still the same results. The bright red and green lights only work in the "on" mode. So far I didn't fry out the box or the chip.

Does anyone know if a different kind of chip like the Executer will work on a new box? If so then I'll probably unload the new Xbox for $100 or try my hand at soldering.

For now I'm now going to buy another Xbox but this time a refurbished one for $150 sold at a computer/game store in most major shopping malls (In America) called "Electronic Boutique". I have people waiting for modded boxes so hopefully the chips will work on thoes.

what version is the new one? what was the maufacter date on it. if it is december 2002 or later, you might have a V1.2 xbox and i dont think the matrix chips work the same on those. my buddy just bought a new xbox 2 days ago from best buy and he got a V1.1 maufactered in novemeber 2002 (to bad he stripped the screw hole instaling his matrix, now i got to fix it).
i do know that the system will boot with microsoft under the X if you have a game in. good luck with the refurb - i live in the states too and i couldn't live without having an EB around!

The Mfg. date of the box I just purchased is 2002-8-17 I had both a backup game and the slayers disk and the xbox did not detect the non-official disks.

I asked about the "refurbished" boxes and it turns out they are not old, rather units that are taken off the assembly line ( 1 out of 1,000) and then tested. They can't be sold as new so that's why the price is reduced.

dude, its just a simple aligment problem you dont have to buy another box. just realign. most of the time its just that the pogos arent pushed down far enough and all of them arent making contact. if the box has solder in all the holes its easier if its a new one you may need to fill the holes with solder to make good contact.

I assumed that if the light was green then it was properly alligned. I'll try a few more times because I really want this to work :)
