I would like to know if it is possible to get banned from xbox live (in the future) due to the FW hack? Can microsoft detect who and who doesnt have the FW HACK? is there anyway that this is possible? I would like some technical answers not just a maybe yes or no. Whoever has experience with this issue please state whether it is or isnt possible. I read a long time ago about something like this and someone who seemed to know what he was talking about said the Drive is not connected to the motherboard in a way that theres no way microsft can update its bios and detect it. But I would just like to know if its something Safe? I have searched forums but never got a good enough answer. Because with the original Xbox, even those who had mod chips that turned off themselves before going on to live got banned. But this FW hack seems secure... i just want to hear it from a specialist on this.

theres a possibility, but unlike the old xbox mod's we cant cheat with this hack. Nor can we fake gamerpoints, so it would be a shock if m$ would put a stop to us, as we are paying for gold memberships, and they have nothing to lose but more money.

Who knows?

the hack has been around for a while now and theres been no sign from microsoft doin nethin aba it, ive been waitin to see if they do nethin cos im thinkin aba doin the hack myself but the last thing i want is to get banned and if sumthin goes wrong with ur xbox then uve got no chance of them sortin it out.
i just cant decide if its worth it or if its just worth waitin for a decent chip

The only who can give a true answer is someone from Microsoft. All the rest of us can do is speculate. Here's my $.02. Microsoft dropped the hammer on the kiosk disc after just one month. They've had 3 months to do something about firmware hacks and still nothing. I think it's easier to block one demo disc from running than it is to fix something they totally overlooked like the firmware hacks. Plus only the hardcore will do this anyway. If the demo disc was allowed to continue to work, someone may have figured out how to use it to run copied games on a totally unmodified 360. That's what MS really did not want. I don't think they are as worried about the firmware hacks.

Yea I agree epimp, with the FW hack theres no way to cheat... and if they ban us, they will lose money since THEY make all the money for gold memberships... they dont make much on games. But then again... if they ban us, im pretty sure that will make some of us run out and buy another 360 (or at least when theres a price drop).

Shauntay im also wonderin whether i should do the FW hack or wait for a responce. I much rather go along with the FW hack than a modchip... that involves soldering on your mother board, and usually 20 or more solder points... i rather do the FW Hack thats Safer.. oops got to go.

well i read somewhere that some modding company are currently designing a softmod similar to the xbox 1 softmod.
you wiill be able to mod games online and off, unlock all achivments est. and because the xbox 360 is so powerful they could have a chance of playing copied games online without being caught due to the softmod having more power then ever.
i cant remember when it is suppose to be relesed (probaly ages away).
but for every updatsfrom microsoft you will have to wait for the company to design a smilar update that wont delete the softmod est.

this will be kind of cool and im pritty sure iv seen people mod on xbox live on games like call of duty 2 where the guy had unlimited life (omg).

On another site there is an interesting post..
Somebody hacked the firmware and went on live..Strange things started to happen with points earned and account status so they disconnected and attempted to put the firmware back to stock. Somehow something had happened to the drive and it now refuses to accept the original firmware..
Result.. a bricked 360.. Interesting :S

Not to sound like an ass, but he seems like he just screwed his 360 up on his own or maybe do to his hardware. I've gone on Live and reflashed with no problems. Live didn't have anything to do with his brick. I love the "for educational purposes" line. LOL.

Ahh..but did you get the "unauthorised match" notice that he claims to have had? Maybe they can detect it and have a cure already. I don't trust MS as far as I can kick 'em. After all they make the machines and are fully aware of the firmware hacks. I don't understand why they would mess with people using hacked firmware as it isn't possible to cheat yet.
It's worth bearing in mind though that this may be a MS plan in action.

All ms are intrested in is stopping people plaing pirate games so they will have more game buys and make more money. ms dont give a c**p about people cheating because it dosent really affect their income profits.

I'm not so sure I believe it all happened like that guy said. If MS came up with something all the boards talking about 360 firmware hacking would be flooded and they aren't.

It's not the first time I've heard it. I'll keep my eyes open and report any more that I hear. As it's the dvd drive that is locked to the board this time round it's certainly possible that there may be a way to scan for changes in the firmware if it's done after the box is registered to an account, just like with the hdd and eeprom in the xbox. Anyway.. It's well known that going on live modded in any way is a stupid risk. The point I'm trying to make is.. If you love online gaming why risk your account by cheating? That includes cheating by not buying the game you want to play.. I'm not going to mention the piracy issue, it isn't relevant. ;)
