Win XP Home doesn't recognize dvd/cd burner

In Control Panel, System Folder/Hardware/Device Manager/DVD CD-ROM Drives/Hp DVD Writer 400c [my burner]/Properties/Device Status/This device is working properly. But after instaling either Nero 6 or PowerISO. I can't get Windows XP Home Edition to recognize my dvd/cd burner. I suspect it's a registry issue. I've uninstalled and reinstall Nero, PowerISO, and reinstalled all my Drivers, and still can't get my hp dvd writer / cd-writer combo [my burner] to recognize a dvd/cd. The hardware is working, as pertains to system folder above, but I don't know how to rewrite the registry problem or delete whatever. Can anyone help?

Hi,

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/368223 same question. Please take a look at the forum rules and remember to post once to avoid confusing yourself and having multiple replies spread out. Will request one of them be closed.

Now do you have the burner on autoplay once a dvd or cd is inserted? perhaps you need to right click on the device in my computer and change the settings ( I suspect somehow it defaulted to do nothing when media is inserted) to autoplay when media is inserted. Can you open media player and view the movie or listen to the cd once inserted? Not sure but I had the same issue and the above solution worked for me. Post back if that does not work.
