Well, I finally got the basement theater room finished and am setting up my Pnasonic PT-101 CRT Projector and an awesome sound system. Yes, the Panasonic is a bit long in the tooth (Circa 1986) and primitive by today's standards. No, it won't display more than about 400-500 lines---BUT, for a cheapskate like me, it is the best $205 TV set I could have imagined! It cost me $5 a couple of years ago at a Purdue University Garage sale, and needed about $200 in parts (a flyback and several transistors).
After playing with HV and Shutdown adjustments (I had to change the Flyback Xformer, remember), Focus, Black Level, White level, etc for a few days, I put in a DVD of "Lost in Space" and kicked back to enjoy the new theatre. To my 62 year old eyes, the picture is pretty doggone good.
No, not up to HDTV standards, but not bad, and BIG!
This will hold me and the XYL until we get rich and can afford a new DLP or whatever.
