I've got a eMachines T3265 desktop, about 15 months old, havent had any issues up to now. It came with a CD-ROM drive and a Pioneer DVR-106EM DVD Burner which I have used without any problems up until about a month ago. When I put in any type of disc, whether it is a DVD movie, CD Music disc, a DVD data disc, nothing would show up. Go to My Computer and click on that drive and it shows it as empty. The same thing happened to my CD-ROM drive. I didnt really use that CD-ROM drive so it didnt really matter. I updated the driver for the DVD drive but still the same issues.

I contacted eMachines support who told me to uninstall the drives and let Windows XP add them back. Did that, no change. Then they told me to restore the BIOS default (Phoenix Award BIOS) and start XP in safe mode, remove the drives and the IDE/ATA/ATAPO controller. That will didnt do anything. They told me to reseat the cables and reinstall, still the same.

So I thought maybe the DVD drive is kaput. I ordered a new BENQ DW 1655 from newegg.com. Today it arrived so I removed the Pioneer DVD drive and installed the BENQ. I ran the Driver check utility from the BENQ website and I do have the latest driver. Guess what?

The discs are still showing as empty. What to do, what to do???

Did you use a new IDE cable for your new drive or still using that same cable you used for your pioneer drive?I'm not a pro about these stuffs but if you're using the same IDE cable, you can try to use a new one,it's not this kind of expensive,so you can give it a try.

Make sure that you get an 80 wire, 40 pin cable. It is the same type of cable that connects your hard drive to the motherboard.
