Hello,

I am trying to bridge wireless internet but i keep running into IP Address problems. And Conflicts.

Here is the way i am trying to brige it.

First--Connect to the internet wirelessly using my computer
Second--Bridging Wireless Internet Thru Then Internet Adapter--to my computer--then out of my ethernet adapter--then into another router.


But when i do this i eventually get an ip address conflict.

I need help or advice on something i am doing wrong. Thanks

Go from your computer to the router. The router to your external modem. Modem to wall jack. You are bouncing the way you have it set up. Set your router to obtain IP automatically if you are using a dynamic connection. Then the modem will assign the IP address to your computer.

Now if you are a static connection then all IP's have to be directed to the proxy server which has both an Internal and external card. I doubt you are running a server, but if you are give me a little more information about your set up.

Do you know how to ping?

Yes i know how to ping.

I was trying this for a project in my advanced cisco class.
I am trying to route internet into my computer wirelessly and then send it out of my computer thru my ETHERNET port to a router to rebroadcast it.

I am running a server but none of that is connected to my setup.

SO its

wireless from router
to computer from adapter
to router with cable

What's the control point for the wireless router?

Your going to have to assign IP addresses.

I Need Help Bridging Internet For The Most Part


My Router/with internet

being recieved to my computer thru a wireless adapter

and then bridged to my ethernet port

and then my ethernet port is connected to another router


IN WHICH i am trying to rebroadcast the internet.

Nah.. the problem is the internal lan router.. all that is needed is a switch, or to turn off dhcp on the router.

Windows runs a DHCP and DNS service on the inner nic when you set up the sharing on the external wan (wireless) connection. (hence the IP conflicts)

Just assign everything an IP in the 192.168.0.xx range, with the main pc on 192.168.0.1.. xp will assign that number automatically when you run the "share this connection" wizard.. Then just run the wizard on each other machine.. the only difference is they will be set to "connect to a broadband connection which is always on" instead of direct to internet..

You can confirm the other machines have found the main network by pinging 192.168.0.1. from any of them.. it should be automatically assigned as the default gateway anyway.

But why are we doing your coursework for you?? I think they intended for you to think about the situation and work it out.. 2 dhcp servers on one lan doesn't work, unless you can set the router outward looking ip to something you know will never be assigned to any other machine on the network. Not all allow this for what they see as a broadband ethernet connection.. depends on the make.. Set it all up static and it will work.

Don't assume your coursework is too hard for fully qualified server and network engineers.. We just don't like giving you all the answers you will need to know in your work.
