Im using Swap Magic 3.3, and a slide card, and I keep getting "Not a Valid PS2 disc". I've tried backing up many different games, and keep getting the same error. As for media, I started out using crappy Optodisc 8x DVD-R's, and then when they didn't work, i got Sony 8x DVD-R's, and yes they are authentic Sony discs. I've updated the firmware on my Dvd Burner, and still can't find a solution. Any ideas?

try cleaning your lens just open ur ps2 and use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol (window cleaner works too) and swab it and dry it with the other side.

go through your process of backing them up in more detail.
It is hard to help when the only information to go by is
"my games don't work", which is pretty common.

It could be how you back them up
It could be that the PS2 you have doesn't like those Sony discs
It could be the burning speed you use
It could be that the game needed rebuilding or dummy files removed
you see where i'm going with this?

I back them up using DVD Decrypter, reading the ISO to the hard drive, the writing it to the DVD.
I've tried the Sony discs, and other Optodiscs, neither worked.
4x burning speed, on 8x discs/
I've tried 5 or 6 different games. Other people have successfuly burned these games without rebuilding.

My PS2 doesn't like discs with the Sony Media ID. What's the Media ID on the discs? It doesn't matter if other people did/didn't have to rebuild games, that has nothing do with it. Are you sealing the disc tray with the slide card on the final swap? That's a very common mistake with the slide card. You can't close the disc tray with the eject button, you have to seal it with the slide card.

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
