Let me first start out by saying I'm new to all this technology so please bear with me. I'm trying to convert home videos on VHS to DVD's. What I've been doing is copying the whole VHS onto a DVD using my DVD recorder. Then I transfer the DVD onto my hard drive using Intervideo DVD Copy 5. What I'd like to do is then edit these videos and separate them by occasion. i.e.Birthdays, X-MAS, Vacations, etc. Then I'll be able to pull whatever clips I want to make customized DVD's. The problem is I can't find a way to edit the clips and save them as individual files. I'm using Intervideo WinDVD Creator and it works fine, but to get an individual clip I need to create an individual DVD and then re-copy it to my hard drive. Needless to say this is taking a lot of time and space on my hard drive. I'm making these DivX files. Is that what you would recommend? I started by making them MPEG2 files, but those seem double the size of the DivX ones. I want to obviously keep the quality good, but also not use 1GB for a 40 min. clip. Like I said what I'm doing right now is working, but trying to do this with 30 two hour DVD's is very time consuming to rip, burn, and then rip again. Any suggestions? Also, I'm not familiar with the whole compression thing. Is the file automatically compressed when I save it as a DivX file or do I need to go in and do something else? Hopefully this was the correct forum for this. Thanks in advance.
I think you might be able to do that using Nero 7, although im not certain. It has a lot of features for creating and editing dvds. you should be able to download a demo version from www.ahead.com. let me know if you have any luck as i would like to do the same with my home movies. Good luck mjspdr
