ATAD patching without a mod chip?

Is there a way to patch a third-party HDD so it'll be recognized as a Sony drive by using a swap disc or by putting the HDD in my ps2 and using a program? I'm asking since Metal Saga isn't currently supported by HDLoader, but the game does have an in-game option to copy part of the game to the HDD, but only if the system recognizes the HDD as an official Sony HDD.
