I have a friend that is trying to use his PC DVD-ROM drive to rip games and I know it is
possible it was in the instructions of the xtreme package but he tried it and it says his disc is
damaged or dirty. Anyone know an exact procedure for ripping the games this way as I
would like to try it as well.. I understand the DVD-Rom drive may have to be disassymbled
and he did that and it ripped the data and he used ss merger to merge the ss.bin over can
some one make a guide for this Please.. **On my knees begging** Thanks in advance
guys..
EDIT: My friend has a Hitachi Drive and has it Flashed as well for his backups, thought ya
might wanna know..

It does work but the s.s. still needs to be injected. You can use either wxripper (which is used in that guide) or isobuster. I assume that you wanted to make backups without needing to to use your 360 drive. But you do still need it to get the s.s.... and you'll need the samsung/toshiba drive for that. Although I thought I might have read somewhere that they might of got one of the hitachi drives to work, but I'm not sure about that. I got the samsung so I never looked into that too much.
Your other option it to try and download the s.s. for the game that your trying to backup.

go on your isp's website or email them to see if they have a news server.
if not you can pay for one online or find free ones (that last site I listed has some free ones)
just google it... the world is at your fingertips :-)

when my friend ripped the game with his PC-DVD Rom it ripped just fine and when he was done pulled it up in SS Merger and it showed the game was PAL and it was really NTSC.. Anyone know why when he ripped it and merged it with SS Merger and burned with CloneCD it said disc was scratched or dirty on his Hitachi 360? he tried the eject fix hitting it twice..

Haven't heard of that problem but it sounds like he might have injected the wrong s.s. Did he rip the s.s. from the original or download it? The same game has different s.s. depending on where it's meant to be sold.

Ya, you can't get the ss with a regular drive just yet. There is firmware in the works which you can flash a samsung sh d162c pc drive to use.

And actually, depending on which firmware his hitachi drive had, he might be able to read the ss with this firmware soon:
Quote: GaryOPA Xtreme v1.3 Hitachi-LG Firmware 7in1
>> GaryOPA released an updated version of their Hitachi-LG firmware package with the Dashboard Timeout Fix for all FW versions and improved flashing/restoring. An Xtreme v1.3 merged with F900 (SS extracting) of the GaryOPA package for all FW versions should be coming soon:
[QUOTE]
GaryOPA - Xtreme v1.3 firmware - Hitachi 7in1 - v32/v36/v40/v46/v47/v58/v59
CURRENT PACKAGE: "XTRM-HITACHI-7IN1-V1_3.RAR" - 07/25/2006 - 998,366bytes
* ALL NEW Xtreme v1.3 firmware for all versions of Hitachi Drives
- Complete fast booting of backups, just like the Samsung drive!
- Thanks to "Geremia" for the answer to "media detect"
- Removed the "Birdy" double-tap EJECT trick (not needed anymore)
- Still in place the "Birdy" Mode B tweak for Windows usage
* EVEN MORE IMPROVED FLASHing
- Fail-Safe flashing system - Almost no chance of BRICKed drives!
* GREATLY IMPROVED RESTORing - Can restore drive with NO BACKUP!
* Birdy is hard at work on the "Security Sector Extraction"
- Birdy has released a test package for the v46 drives
- Many small problems with the GETSS program by "Specturm4eva"
* Update to be released this week for complete Security Sector Reading
- After we have tested it fully on the all working Hitachi drives.

Once you newsgroups you'll wonder how you could have downloadeded any other way. To be honest I still use bit torrents once it a while, but as I said, it just once in a while.
