Can you run 2 DIFFERENT video cards together in SLi, or do they have to be twins?

Thats all. Thanks!

They have to be twins. However i advise you to avoid sli and just get one awesome graphics card. As you rarely get over a 20% performance increase whilst running sli.

oh ok. I figured that. What?! only a 20% increase? When I get one 7600GT and then upgrade it later to twins, there will only be a 20% increase?

That doesn't sound right. Thanks alot for the advice lecsisy. BTW I am planning on building a comp EXACTLY like yours, got your mobo already and am planning for a San Diego 3700. How is that chip? I don't wanna spend another $120 for duel core, i hear that chip is really good for $209.

Thanks alot!

The chips really awesome. Overclocks well and all. However STOP and dont buy any processor yet as there will be a big price drop on the AMD line of processors tommorow!

Hope that helps.

Also if you can stretch to getting an X1800Gto Sapphire graphics card thats highly recommended. Personally i believe youd be better getting that one and not using the sli feauture ever on that mobo.
Just my opinion.

ok great thanks. I havent ordered it yet. Maybe in a few weeks? You really think I should get an ATI rather than an nVidea? Hmmmm. What do you think the price drop will be?

Yall wrong. Just found out recently the cards dont have to be twins to run sli. With the advent of forceware 77 (i think.cant remeber the number) the ability to run to oposite cards in sli is possible. Which is good to know since I cant find another 6800gt bfg oc edition card and planning to run sli soon. Going to mate it with a bfg 7800gt oc edition. Just not sure where to buy the bridge to hook them u though....

epox mobo EP-9NPAJ
amd 3700+ san diego core oc to 2.50
antec true power 430 watt dual +12 volt rails @ 18 amps each
bfg geforce 6800 gt oc edition
dragon case
2 x 512 DUAL CHANNEL ELIXOR RAM
Ibm P260 dvi & vga 21 inch crt monitor 1600 x 1200 @ 85 htz Oh yeah!!

'tis a massive price reduction to say the least

I agree, i was going to get sli when i first was building my computer and SLi was JUST coming out... and i heard it was cool and all, but really just a huge waste of money, as the best gpu's were 700$ a piece....

now look at it, you can find a pretty damned good gpu for 200ish

I think thou that you should just get one graphics card, save a bit of money and then just buy a better one when ur one goes obsolete?
