Hello to you all guru out there.....

I need a bit of help here, 'cos im now to this thing.

My PSP firmware version is 2.5 and i have 1 GB memory stick.
Questions:

1. How can i play game from the memory stick?
2. Do i need to downgrade the firmware?
3. I'm thinking to download some game from the net and wondering how can i play the game?

Well for starters you cant play backed-up games on 2.5. Although you can use SOME homebrew with GTA:LCS and the Eloader. Yes you will need to downgrade in order to play iso backups. But first you need to check and see if your psp has a TA-082 motherboard. This link will help you identify if it is.

If it's not a TA-082 psp then you can downgrade. But first you will need a copy of the downgrader and an unpatched version of GTA:LCS. Go here to get the full version of the downgrader.

You can play 'homebrew' games but you will need a copy of GTA to play them. You can play downloaded games ripped from a UMD.

You can downgrade by you will still need GTA to do so. You will downgrade to 1.5 with allows loading o ripped UMD games and homebrew.

What type of games will you want to download Homebrew or games from a UMD?

I just want to play game that are ripped from UMDs.

I.e puzzle bubble , wipe out, x-men legends. Generally will be from UMDs.

Do i still need to downgrade it ? or i just need to install something in my PSP to play it.

Nope you have to downgrade to 1.5 in order to play backups.

Yep that is right :) But in conjuction with the easy downgrader you will also need an unpatched version of GTA:LCS.

No you need GTA, so update to 2.6 then use eLOader and GTA to downgrade.

use devhook ultimate (my sig) and install the one with 2.7 firmware and you can play every umd and iso

If you rent it you will be able to tell if its unpatched by the version it needs to run. If it needs FW 2.0...unpatched. If it needs 2.6 then it's patched.

they wont give out the original UMD case with rentals at the store more then likely. The best way to check rentals is put it in your psp and see what version it needs. Used copies at game retailers is the best option. Although the local walmart here in idaho (shutup), still carries the unpatched version.

Not saying this post exactly. But have any of you ever wondered if Sony FW developers ever come to forums asking questions like this to find out how we're doing things so that they can make patches for those exploits in later FW updates? I always wondered that.

it's not necessarily a virus, it's just that most anti virus programs will recognize it as a virus. Although there is some malicious programs out there that claim to be downraders or un-brickers and they brick your psp. Download stuff by SXT, MPH, Dark_Alex and you should be fine.
