Hi, I have a Dial-Up internet connection which has an average speed of 46-50kbps and I wondered if you could recommend a good p2p program, I currently use KazaaLite and it is pretty slow for movies. The best d/l speed I get is 4.0kb/s, and it takes a good couple of weeks to download a DVD-rip with the time I have on the net.

Thanks if you can help.

lol, I have only just got off Freeserve Dial-up 5 weeks ago, never got above 45kbps during that time, and towards the end it would not connect at higher than 30. Twice I got connected @ 8kbps!!!!!! In addition to that Freeserve don't wait long to disconnect after either, once every couple of hours. It seems real strange to me therefore someone can get above 45kbps!

I think you guys have got your bytes and bits muddled. Modem speed is measured in thousands of bits (Kb) and download speed in thousands of bytes (KB). To convert KB to Kb multiply by 8 and to convert Kb to KB divide by 8.

Dela. Yeah. It was him and a couple of the others I was aiming that at. I know you know. I've spent a bit of time in these forums and I'm starting to worship you. You know your stuff.
This confusion between bits and bytes crops up over and over again in the forums. It could do with one of your guides as to what speeds can be expected from different types of modems. It's basic but there is a lot of confusion and a lot of questions on and around the subject.

Let the bonton roulay...
