I have a 42" Insignia plasma, a LG DivX dvd player I just purchased from futureshop, a new Sony 6.1 A/V receiver, and a Rogers Digital cable box. Right now I'm working with FOUR (4) remotes and it's driving me nuts. Is there a solution to cut this down? A regular universal remote won't work because it doesn't offer the features the receiver, Insignia plasma (Has a setting for TV, a setting for DVD, a setting for VGA, Picture In Picture, etc.), or Rogers digital cable remotes have.
The Rogers remote looks almost exactly the same as the Bell ExpressVu Satellite remote if this info. helps.
The Logitech Harmony 628 is very nice. That's the one I have. Easy to program online. Just type in model numbers of your equipment, download info to remote (via included usb cable). It will operate all your equipment. Very wife (g/f) friendly too! With everything off, push the "Watch a movie" button, and it turns on the tv, and puts it on the right input (for dvd player), turns on the dvd player, and turns on the A/V receiver, and puts it in the dvd mode. When ready to go to bed, push the "Off" button, and it turns everything off. All the Harmony remotes do this. There are other more expensive brands, that do too.
That's excellent. Thanks for the weblink. So many to choose from and quite a wide price range.
Now I need help with influencing my wife into allowing me to spend more! Just spent several hundred on a dvd player and receiver so she's not to happy.
I'll make sure to point out it's "wife" friendly, lol.
Show her my post, so she can see some of what they do.
My wife used to get so aggrevated with using four remotes, to go back and forth from tv to movies to music. She loves having one remote to do it all...........
Good luck! (the "WAF", wife acceptance factor, comes into play, with about everything!) :-)
or if you look in the rogers manual, you can program your rogers remote to control evertying. i have a rogers hd terminal, a dvd player and my tv hooked up to my remote. that's my free solution.

I wish it was that simple for me....for some reason the remote Rogers provides me with for my digital box is only programable with....get this....a VCR! It's almost 2007 already!! I even spoke to Rogers on that and they could just say sorry but we don't offer that feature yet. You might have it since yours is an HD Receiver.
The Harmony 600 series remotes are an EXCELLENT choice. They SHOULD cost about $110+ shipping if you buy online. They are all basicly the same with some minor cosmetic differances between them (so ask the wife which one she likes).
Anywho, I got one for my folks last year and programed it for them, no problems since. In fact, when they got a home theater setup for the bedroom, they bought another and (with a little prompting) were able to program it online themselves (thats how easy it is).
you can also look at the phillips pronto for the ultimate in remote nirvana, problem with it is that they start at 300-400 bucks depending on where you shop and they go up from there
the upside is they are 100% touch screen, you get software with them, that you can design your remote layout any way you want it.
