I have read many forum articles and want to flash my samsung drive Xbox 360. I am a noob dealing with sata cards and ports, but I followed the directions on the Xbox-hacks pdf file (sata cable to PC sata mobo connection, xbox plugged in and started up before booting pc, video cable in xbox, grounding clamps attached to cases). But when I tried to boot up, it freezes at the windows xp load screen (plus the screen is very hard to even see, so evidently it is freezing before that screen even fully loads). I have 2 other computers, but they are without sata ports...

So, I bought a via sata controller card from newegg based on another forum article and thought this might help. Unfortunately I ran into the same problem on my main machine, the freeze up when the samsung drive is attached by sata.

I tried the card in both my other machines, my secondary machine boots up; but there is no drive letter for the DVD drive showing in My Computer or the disk management screen. It is scsi based, don't know if that matters or not.

I tried on my old pc (win98); but it starts so slow that the boot up sound of windows hangs for like 4 minutes. That won't work either.

Can someone please help me on this? I am about to pull my haid out.... (and I would look horrible bald).

:) Thanks

If you're trying to flash a samsung drive, you don't boot windows. The flash has to be done in dos.

But shouldn't the drive be at least recognizable when attached in Windows?? To know it is accessible?

Okay, tried this over and over and all that happens is xbox light flashes like it tries to access dvd-rom drive, and it stayed like this one hour. Gave up, is not writing backup to a: drive... I took a screenshot of my msinfo scsi (as was done in other threads for help). There is an error showing, maybe that is the problem. I don't know.. Can someone please help; I don't have any idea of what to try next...

The screenshots in other threads is part of getting the mtkflash program edited to work with their motherboard. Basically, mtkflash copies the original firmware from your 360 drive. Once you have it copied then you need to turn off pc, disconnect the 360 drive from your pc and boot up windows so you can edit the hacked firmware with your 360 drive key (which is on the original firmware you just copied). Then you shut off pc, reconnect 360 drive, and reflash.

Just because your pc has sata connections doesn't mean that it'll work (just yet). In alot of cases the mtkflash won't work with the chipset on your motherboard. If that's so then you need to have the mtkflash edited so it'll work.

To start out, which tutorial are you using and which hacked firmware?

Thanks for the replies guys...

I have the bios edited so that the mobo and sata card are working... here is the screenshot...

Have tried many different tutorials (latest of which was from reply on this thread above, http://sickmods.net/shared-directories/deakphreak/firmware-flash/ ).

I have also tried the mtkflash183c and the mtk-nf4 files

My latest problem is that it gets to the point where it asks me to choose number of drive. I select the one with sata connection for mtk-nf4 (never recognized on the regular mtkflash183c one, even when trying the card connection). Then it seems to access the xbox because the green light on the 360 is flashing. But it just stays like that and never copies the backup.bin to the a: drive. It just says
port=970, master/slave:a0
and hangs right there doing nothing. Maybe it is the editing of the mtkflash I need, but that is way over my head... can anyone help please... This is driving me nuts... Thanks

I gave up on the second computer (wouldn't recognize sata at all)... the above msinfo screen is from my main computer I am trying to get this done on. Can someone please help if I need an edited mskflash to get this to work? I have run out of things to try myself and I am far far from expert on this sata stuff...
