Information about my PC.
XP Pro SP2, RAM 1 GB, 80 HDD, Kaspersky antivirus, D-Link Router 504T
I have SP2 as well and I get all the same problems as you, but I think its something wrong with the program itself: it still seems a little buggy. I wouldn't go formatting your PC over it, because I doubt that'll hardly help.
To the original poster : have a look at http://www.portforward.com/ It has instructions on how to open the relevant ports on that router of yours, which might solve a bunch of those issues you're having.
Today i tried to change the D-link, i put the "aztech adsl modem" just to check if the problem with the router i use. After i change the router i notice that the MSN work fine 100%, but i like D-link because it gives you the full speed of your DSL, so i replace it and now im trying to fix the D-link but the same issue i couldn?t solve the MSN problems.
so now i know that D-link is the reason for this big issue.
i resend to D-link, and i explain the issue. and they replay to me this is what the told me:

RaMMaS,
From your email it seems that you have some queries with the DSL-504T
router.
You need to open the ports on the router for using MSN Messenger. You can follow
