its not really homebrew its a program you put on you computer it communicates with you media player and it puts and icon in your system tray and when you hover your mouse over it it will show your ip adress followed by :9999 and you type that into your psp browser and it will show the controller
e.g. http://192.153.1.65:9999/ <--- that wont work because its a fake ip i just made it up but its just to give you an ideo on the input

Hmm, I have seen a few programs like this, but not exactly like this one.. Could give it a try, maybe I get rid of the Wipeout hack now for controlling Winamp :D
It's good that people are starting to see the good sides of the WiFi option, just like in the remote controller system, which rocks btw! :D
- And come to speak of it, could you actually turn the JoyPad modification into a multifunctional remote controller of the PC

Hi All,
I am the author of PlayerPal. I am enjoying reading this thread, but I feel compelled to respond to razor3332 assertions about my software.
PlayerPal is a legitimate program with no adware, spyware, trojans or any other malware included with it. My business is to sell licenses, not infect machines. I scan every release for viruses. Of course, I suggest you do so too when downloading any software form the internet, including PlayerPal.
I have plenty of very happy customers as you can see here http://www.download.com/PlayerPal/3640-2167_4-10548386.html?v=1&t... and here http://www.playerpal.com/PermaLink,guid,2357f1bc-3802-4488-bc7e-7...
razor3332, if you believe there is a securiy exploit in PlayerPal that allowed a trojan onto your machine, please tell me what the trojan was and I will investigate. I have never had reports from you or anyone else about this.
Aside form all that thanks for your interest in PlayerPal!
Erikix - PlayerPal works on Windows Media Player too.
jb177 - People use it on firmware 1.5 too (with Links2). I posted about that here http://www.playerpal.com/CategoryView.aspx?category=PlayerPal%20B...

Don't worry I'm not angry :) It is just wrong to infer that PlayerPal installs a trojan, as it does not (unless it was obtained repackaged from a crack site or something like that).
Explaining the trojan would take telepathy, which I have been practicing, but still can't do :( However, any program can have possible exploits that allow trojans (assuming you have no firewall) so if the trojan is named, and more information is provided I would be happy to have a go at explaining it!
Sorry, I didn't mean to advertise.

I tell you what it could be. PlayerPal is a web server and uses remoting. This means it uses port to talk back and forth. This is not over the internet, just on your PC and to your PSP.
When you run PlayerPal your virus software will say, "PlayerPal is trying to open up ports etc etc do you want to allow it?". This is similar to what you would see from a trojan. IF you have XPSP2 firewall you do not see this as PlayerPal is added automatically. If you have another firewall you will see this.
Is that what happened to you razor3332?
Hi hodgins91 - It's cool to hear what you guys have to say!

iPirate - A web server has to open a port. It is impossible for PlayerPal or any other application like PlayerPal to work without opening a port. If you don't want that, do not install any program that you can remotely access from your PSP web browser as they all have to open ports.
I found this thread from my referrer logs.
razor3332 - where did you download PlayerPal and what is the name of the virus your software detected?
