I am in the procsse of getting Parts for a new build... My problem is I have an AGP Gforce 6800GT Graphics card.. It was a great card for its time... and still think it is...How well does that card stand up to current cards? I have been out of the gaming scene for a while now and plan on getting back into itnot really sure I want to step into SLI ...Frankly I would love to keep my current card..

With That being said.....

Should I either get a PCI- Express board and trash my current card.... or an AGP Board...And Keep my current Card!

I thought about getting the 939Dual-SATA2 so I have an option for both... But if I use my AGP card it will cover up a much needed PCI slot leaving me with just 2.

So I have been looking for an AGP board... not alot to choose from ..(seeing as how I am using an 939 Pin AMD 64 X2 4200 Duel Core Prossesor)...

I have all my pieces except the case and motherboard... (unless I trash my 6800) then I would need a pci express Video card... UGGG anyways you are all so smart and helpfull... I am open to any suggestions...

Thanks In advance!!!!

hi there mydogmax, my personal opinion is to trash it and go with a pci express card, why i say this is because why have a great cpu like that and have an older card, your mixing new technology with old, your card still has some life in it i suppose but you would get alot better performance results by switching to pciexpress

intel Q6600 3GB ram 640 GB hard drives
EVGA 7900GT super OC'D 256MB pci express

Pstt...
Hi.. nice computer.. but the cpu needs to drop down to the 3800 X2 they have a hell of a lot of room for overclocking and give you that performance back from the 4200 seeing it is only a 200 increse which is not worth shit... newegg carries a board that does AGP-8x and PCIe-16X i will try to find it real quick..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081

on this.. i would not overclock very much at all seing the price difference.. or at this point you can stay with the 4200..
AGP is in its last days... but i would do somthing like this.. it would be easy and it would kick ass...

This is a kick ass video card for the money.. it will run better than the 680XT AGP that you have.. and u can pass the AGP down or sell it on ebay.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102688

and of course the motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131584

that has duel PCI-E slot and u can overclock pretty damn well.
so it is future proof for a 939 socket...

any other questions and u can send pme a PM (private message)
have fun..

i'm curious does that asrock mobo with a pci-e and agp have some kinda sli maybe thru a program, and i agree.
all you'll need is a 3800+ x2, 2gigs ram, get a 7600 gt(decent performance on a budget), asus mobo s939 nforce 4sli.

Amd Sempron 3200+(Palermo) 1.8ghz | 1GB PC3200 DDR
Geforce 7300LE | Asus Amerbine S939 | Leadtek TV2000XP
240GB hdd space (1x160,1x80) | Win2k | Ubuntu 7.10

Ya know, i never thought of that... i would not think so because of the bandwith difference 8x 16X so i say No..
but 1 gig will do him fine...

I have never gotten into overclocking... havent got a clue how to start... that... or a raid setup for that matter. that is all greek to me I have built a lot of systems... actually I build home theater pc's for a living..... I just never needed to go beyond factory default... anyways I might go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081
I was thinkg about that anyways..
