Hello guys here is my problem...
I used a Sony DRU-810A(e) to burn a movie backup onto a 8x DVD-R Taiyo Yuden printable. Now the disc burnt fine around 2 weeks ago and plays fine on a few standalone dvd players (pioneers and samsung). I tried to play on my pc but it wouldn't recognize it. It showed as the drive being empty. Tried restarting, different software, cleaning the disc and the lens but it still wont show up. Other discs burnt that day on that media are seen by the pc but this one isn't. Not sure what is going on but can someone please help me out.

Thanks
laddyboy

Hi.

DVD burners are much more sensitive than standalone DVD players to disk errors because standalones have robust error processing routines that DVD burners do not.

Poor quality burns have three common causes in my experience.

Using poor quality media.
Burning too fast.
Out of date burner firmware.

Since you used TY media, media quality would not seem to be an issue.

As to burn speed, a good rule of thumb is to limit the speed to one half or less the rated speed of the media.

You can check your burner's firmware version against this database and see if a newer version is available.

If you have to do that you are using the wrong media in your burner. CDfeaks in their burner reviews always tests the media at it's posted speed and lists the test results. With the correct media/burner match the results should be excellant.
