I have a slight problem when burning double layer DVD+R's. Sometimes when I do a full 7GB+ disc onto a blank DVD+R DL, I get a lot of jumping where the layer transition is. When you watch the normal movie obviously sometimes you get the slight pause as it moves to read the second layer. On the copies that I make sometimes I get really bad skipping or jumping for about a minute on and off. Some of my movies come out fine, it pauses for a second and then continues playing, or even cuts like a 100th of a second and moves to the next layer and continues to play. Only on some movies do I get a lot of bad skipping and jumping. It is really quite annoying and I am wondering if there are better ways to avoid this.
I use pretty much all the DVD burning programs. Clone 2, DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, etc... If I was smart I would have kept track of which movies I burned with which programs so I'd know which ones are working better, but I did not. So, I thought I would see if anyone knows anything I can do to make sure the layer transition runs smooth. Maybe burning slower? Using a certain program or setting etc... Any help would be appreciated.

the problem may just be in the BRAND of DVD+R DL media you are using...also, what drive (make and model) is your dvd burner?
only suggestion i can give u right now with the info you have provided:
1. use Verbatim DVD+R DL media for your DL backups
2. make sure your firmware is up to date on whichever particular drive you are using to burn...
3. use DVD Decrypter (iso read---iso write) to burn...OR use imgburn to burn after the file is on your harddrive~ :)

DocTY...... I heard that Imageburn is the better burning program than DVDDecrypter....... both programs made by Lightning_UK...... is Imageburn better just because it's updated or does it have the better burning engine? or both!? I use IMageburn with DVD-RB Pro w/CCE and it comes out great.

I'm using FujiFilm DL discs. I would have thought that FujiFilm would make a more decent disc them Verbatim... But, I'm no expert on disc quality. I just always thought they made decent media.
The drive I am currenty using is up to date. And is an HP dvd840i.
It just seems weird to me that some movies come out just fine and then others don't. But, like I said, I have used several of my programs to burn the movies, so others may be working better then the rest.

hi IHoe,
as far as i know, imgburn is just an "updated" burning engine of DVD Decrypter, same author, just "improved" upon in the burning aspect...i don't know all the details of it, but i've read that imgburn handles the layer break better than dvd decrypter~ :)
to what extent? i don't know, i still continue to use DVD Decrypter OR imgburn for my DL burns, i've had so much success with DVD Decrypter in ISO WRITE mode, that i've just stuck with it for most of my DL backups, i do use imgburn sometimes for fun, but to ME i can't really see the difference or can make an honest statement that "imgburn" is "better" than the original dvd decrypter~ :)
i even use slysoft's clonedvd2 for DL sometimes, just whatever i feel like for that day i guess~ :) i would recommend all three of those progs. for DL burns, much higher than Nero for DL burns ANY DAY OF THE WEEK! :P i myself have had issues with the layer break when i used Nero for DL burns "back in the day"...i have since ditched it as an option for DL media at this point, $2 coasters are not something i can easily deal with...

check out what i have said here regarding Fujifilm DVD+R DL~ :) it might come as somewhat surprising to you based on your past experiences with DL media, but i can assure you, the quality of the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs far surpasses that of the Fujifilm ones...

regardless if you have the RitekD01s or the Ricohjpnr00s, many users have reported "higher success" with the RICOHJPNR00 coded ones, but my PERSONAL experience yielded more success on the RitekD01s compared to my Ricohjpnr00s :) too many factors to take into consideration as to WHY my various setups prefer RitekD01s over that of it's Ricohjpnr00 brothers, could come down with "good batch" vs "bad batch" too...u never know~ :)

I have stuck with the DVD5s because I just don't like the extra stuff on a DVD. Sooo for just Movies..... DVD5s are just fine for me. And if the price of the DLs ever come down then I will just do a 1:1 movie only on those DLs. Meat and potatos for me, only! Don't want the menu screen, previews or trailors, warning screens and such, or extras! Only the movie!

yah, it comes down to PERSONAL preference when people choose to reauthor movies, whether the extras or the other stuff is necessary or important to them, that's just a PERSONAL decision~ :)
i only use DVD+R DL media for the films i feel are "worth" the backup onto DL media from my collection, if i want "everything" included, that is when i PERSONALLY would put it onto a DL disc rather than running it through dvd-rb pro +cce/procoder, i'm just an impatient guy especially when i have to compress the original 60%+, but i can see where you are coming from and that is what works well for you (movie only onto a DVD5) :) i will have to agree with you that dvd-rb + encoder of ur choice with high compression films produces THE BEST quality compared to the other transcoder programs out there, i just don't have the time for it, but it is there~ :)
boils down to individual preferences, we all have our own~ :)

The FujiFilm discs were on sale a few weeks ago for a very good price. It came down to $1.66 a disc. Which for a full DVD is pretty good if you ask me. I like to have them for longer movies as well. I did Casino as well as a couple other 3 hour movies a while back. Going an hour over on a single layer just starts to look bad to me. Especially on a HDTV. Which is why I always like to have a spindle of DL's around.
