I'm having a problem with windows and this router. I've set it up through the easy installation CD that came with it. Windows is recognizing the SSID/Network name but it will not connect to it. Everytime i click on the network name to connect it surfs for a second and won't connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell Insipiron B130 XP Home Wireless card is installed and working properly. I have connected before but it keeps dropping the connection. I've also re-started the computer..switched channels...changed SSID name...unplugged the router and modem I have a cable connection... Thanks again..I'm hoping its an easy fix.

The CD was a mistake to begin with, what's the model number? The package should have come with an installation guide that shows how to set it up without the CD.

It is a WRT54GS version 6. I did an online chat with Linksys last night and they're telling me it's the wireless card in my friends laptop. She is going to call Dell's wireless department today and try and get it straightened it. The card may need to be re-configured or may not be compatible.

I'm curious..why is the CD a mistake?

Most of the time it tends not to work, the CD is only really there for quick tweaks after your first set up. Also, the CD is only really needed if the router is connected to the USB port but it's not. So all you do is type http://192.168.1.1 into the browser and login and change settings, it also allows better functionality. Then again it could really be a faulty card :\

Usually when you get a new router you should update the firmware first then configure your settings, also set your wireless channel to 11 as no other wireless devicess usses this channel (this may cause your dropouts by using the default wireless channel).

i have the 125Mbps version of this Linksys router and i have a few PC's talking to it quite happily and very stably. have you verified the wireless security is correct on the router AND on the client PC ?; (also make sure the wireless security on the router isn't 'too strong' for the clients to 'see'. i mistakenly set mine up originally as 'WPA2 Personal' but my Linksys WMP54G PCI cards couldn't authenticate with WPA2, so i dropped it down to 'WPA Personal' and all is now good in the world).

Also verify that the WPA Algorithms match up, ie if the router is set to 'TKIP' ensure the client is the same.

(you should try doing this in Linux, talk about jumping thru hoops!)

I've taken the security all of the way off and it still wouldn't connect. Now that I think about it, it may be the card/compatibility issue. I'll let Dell work it out with my friend. The signal is fine and her laptop is acknowledging it but for some reason won't connect to it. My friend just went out and bought a Netgear and I set that up for her..it worked for about 10 mins or so the it kicked her off. That was a B/G router and the Linksys is only a G. I had her take it back and get the Linksys. So we'll see what happens when she calls Dell. I actually have the same Linkys rounter and have 4 computers and a host on my network and no trouble what so ever. It has to be the card or a sys config issue. I'll re-post after I hear back from her just to follow up as an FYI. As always..thank you for the prompt service :)

Just wanted to follow up as an FYI..been on vaca... It turned out being the frameburst feature on the router. The speedboaster didn't work well with her wireless card. They reconfigured the router and turned the speedboost off and it works fine now.

Thanks again for your help..
