LiteOn 166s Ripping to Maxtor external hard drive

Serious problem...I can rip perfectly fine to my internal hard drives, but not to this newly purchased maxtor. Speeds are as slow as 0.5x usually I get 7x max. DMA is set, fixed a firmware problem I had, went to codeguy and downloaded the utilities to fix it. Before that problem, I believe it was ripping just fine to the external, I went and messed around with the firmware (tried to make it faster) put one on that completely slowed it down from, but I fixed that problem as stated above. Any help is appreciated.

Are you using the same USB connection on both ends, is your PC using a USB 2 as well as the external drive?
