My administrator account has been infected by a virus and it is completely unusable but i can still get on to my guest account, is there any way that i can turn my guest account in to an administrator account without logging on to my administrator account, if not then how do i do a system restore to factory settings without logging on to my administrator, ive tried using my guest account but acess is denied, im using a HP compaq, i can get on to the system options by pressing F10 as soon as the system boots but i dont know what im doing once i get there and i dont want to make my comp worse than it is, thanks

Hi Alextimo!

Welcome to afterdawn. I don't have the answer to your question but I've asked a moderator to move your post to a more appropriate forum as you're more likely to get the responses you need in the virus abd spyware forums or wherever the mod seems to think most appropriate...Gerry

boot up in safemode to bypass the administrative account issues and run an anti-virus program and do other maintenence. i don't know of any way to turn your guest account into an administrative one, but you can probably save your account with a bit of work.

yes, but if he does that, he'll lose everything that he hasn't backed up. photos, videos, documents,...everything.

alextimo,

Go here http://www.hijackthis.de click "direct download". Extract the files to a loction of your choice. Run a scan and save a log file. Post that log file here. Let's see if you have any infections.

yes, you will. you can either use the system restore discs that came with the computer when you first got it to return it to exactly how it was when those discs were produced, or you can used a regular windows disc and cut out the proprietary crap (and additional programs) that came with the HP originally.
