best near-future LCD buy?

Relatively new to HD market. I currently have a Hitachi 46F510 with Dish HD package and am considering an LCD panel in the upcoming months. I would like to upgrade to a 1920x1080 res LCD display. Have read about Sony XBR3 series just appearing and specs at least look impressive. Also would consider the Samsung 95 series, but have read about a 96 series. What's the diff between 95/96 series? And any thoughts on these two choices? I can only use a 40/42 inch size, if that makes any difference. And any other suggestions.
