Yeah there is but its not as easy to do and your upgrade route is very narrow, video card wise.

No problem, but make sure whatever you upgrade is suitable for your laptops setup. Stuff like heat issues and socket are issues.

Im not sure about the driver issue but I know that you can upgrade graphic cards. The thing is that your choices are REALLY limited. Like on a PC you can use an ATI or Nvidia any brand its all the same socket. Well on a laptop ATI and Nvidia have different sockets for their videocards. So if your laptop is equipped with a Nvidia card then you MAY be able to upgrade but maybe not. A lot of things come into play. Cooling issues being the biggest one.

generally speaking, upgrading graphics on a laptop is a dead-end. With the exception of a few very high end gaming systems (alienware, falcon northwest, possibly Dell XPS, etc.) the video card is a pain in the butt just to get to, and even harder to actually get out (half the time requires you be real handy with a soldering iron). Even the notebooks with "upgradeable graphics cards" such as the brands I mentioned above have extremely limited options as far as what cards are available, and these upgrade cards are always extremely expensive.

With the cost associated with a new notebook graphics card, as well as the time and difficulty of the labor involved, it would honestly be MUCH better to simply look into getting the most you can out of your current laptop for the time being and investing in a new notebook when it's an option.

Nvidia's Socket = MXM
ATI's Socket = XIOM

Upgrading videocards on laptops is not limited to high-end laptops. Theres no logic who upgrades a Alienware? Anything involving working in a laptop is going to be hardwork considering how small and delicate the parts are. And yeah some of the stuff will be hard to get to but that really all depends on the lay out of your laptops chassis and the layout of the motherboard. I do remember last time I removed a laptop graphics module it was as simple as pushing two spring arms outwards to release the graphics module and then re-inserting the new module. No soldering required.

On the topic of hard laptop upgrades and the such. Asus has come out with a chassis that lets you access all its internal by removing screw on covers on the bottom of the chassis. Ex. upgrading everything by a simple flip, unscrew, replace, rescrew.

I would start by looking at the online stores. Like newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com,tigerdirect.com, then if no results I would be lost. Again unless you know what your doing you could really muck up your notebook. So unless upgrading your graphics is a must do I wouldnt try it. But if you do be careful
